He should go and see the same specialist who solved Mickeys similar problem. Did it not turn out that it was his teeth that were causing the issue and a gum shield fixed it?

Bizarre yeah. Mickey ended up with a gumshield that fixed his pelvic problems🤷🏽‍♂️

Had feared this would happen.  I’m starting to think that when we extend player contracts, we celebrate by kicking the shit out of them.

Wouldn’t mind seeing Halkett cover for him in that holding role.  Remember, Haring came to us as a CB as well.

Was it a similar problem though? Had mickeys not been undiagnosed for a good few years?

I get the impression that it’s not going to be a quick fix with this. A good quality holding midfielder is now a priority.

Should give Halkett a go and sign a proper replacement for Djoum.

Same thing solved a long standing back issue for Jose Maria Olazabal as it happens

I'd actually prefer we gave chances to some of our promising young midfielders rather than squeezing a square peg into the round hole.

I’m all for giving the young guys a chance to prove themselves. However, playing any of the promising CM’s we have on the cusp of the first team in Haring’s role would actually seem to be squeezing square pegs into round holes more than signing a specialist holding midfielder would be.

I don’t feel like Irving, Cochrane or Smith are suited to that role.

We need an experienced holding midfielder to protect the back line.

I agree. I may be wrong but I think he is familiar with the role.

We still need an experienced midfielder to be signed to replace Djoum.

Which young player do you think is a holding midfielder?

Halkett has played there before, has decent passing and is a goal threat.

I don't know the individual strengths of our various youngsters, but I'd hope the coaching staff do.

I just think that 5 years on it's surely time we were able to promote from within rather than having to reach for new signings and loan deals or repurpose an existing first-teamer every time somebody gets injured.

I don't think we have a first team ready, holding midfielder, academy player.

Asking one of Cochrane, Irving etc to play that role might be more a square peg situation than asking an experienced player who's already played that role to step up.

Have been suggesting this since the lad signed, He is a good footballer and scored a few goals for Livingston should fit in there very well.

This.  Let's try and develop Irving into a good CM.  He's skilful and a good player but needs games at a high level to learn.

From what I'm hearing, the medical team are under close scrutiny and there's a lot of discontent with them, we may even have a new medical team in place this season (don't shoot the messenger, and wasn't even sure I should post this tbh), but let's just say that Haring should never have been passed fit for the cup final.

I’m sure the will be a position pencilled in for him from academy days - if that isn’t CM then I wouldn’t like to switch him permanently to cover.

Nonsense. Misdiagnosis and mistreatment happen at all teams with alarming regularity. I know this as I read it on here.

I’d rather see Halkett at centre back and try Chris Hamilton in the holding role.

If we have to try a central defender in the holding midfield role, how about Souttar? We know he has the football and he does like to stride forward, unless we start bringing in what we need

He could be out for months - a season, important now we find someone who can come in and cover.

Was just about to post this.

Put Halkett in at the back and move Souttar forward.

CL was adamant when Souttar signed that we wouldn't muck about with his position like had happened to him at Dundee United. Think it's therefore unlikely but personally I'm not against it.

This makes more sense to me. A lot of folk are saying that Halkett has played midfield before but according to Transfermarkt, it is only 2 games in 137 and none in recent times. We definitely need a proper backup, the loan market may be worth looking at.

Souttar is settled in the team and would probably be fine in the DM position.  Halkett may have played there before, but he is still settling in.  Best to let him do that in his natural position.

Souttar has the right amount of bite to his game now too.  He likes a tackle and is usually good with distribution apart from 1 or 2 Hollywood passes each game.  3 or 4, if we are on TV.  😉

We could maybe only use him there in the "bigger" games when we are expecting to have less of the ball?

We're harder to beat with Haring in - putting the league cup to one side, the league season has some tough openers which I would liked to have Haring in the team for.

We have a number of punts in the Squad -

Souttar played DM at Dundee United, but not for a few years and wasn't a starter IRC.

Hamilton - I understand this would likely be the position he will end up at, but I don't think he has played there thus far.

Cochrane, Irving - I don't think it's quite his game, plus I think we're looking for a more physical player, that's good in the air.

Bozanic may be the most likely if we can't bring the player that we want in.

Halkett - I don't favour bringing a new guy in and playing him out of position - he may need to settle into the squad first.

I think that they are all square pegs to some extent, I think we need someone in as we can't really assume that if recovers, that'll be the end of it.

There's no Lee in the team to keep those in.

I think CL likes to play his 2 strongest defenders at CB.  Don't think he would change this to shore up the midfield.

Its Cowdenbeath tomorrow.........., lets see if Halkett can totally dominate in a CM role. Might be another Haring....we need to find out .....and this is an opportunity. Otherwise, Bozanic has the grit, engine and aggression etc to play in there.

His injury was pushed past its limit by Craig Levein. CL has already accepted responsibility for that. Saying he’s “made of chocolate” is a tad harsh.

Not sure about this. When Souttar played as DM for Dundee United he looked like a fish out of water. The roles are very different. For example, though Scott Brown is a complete git, he’s about the best DM in the country. That doesn’t mean he’d make a good central defender.

I'd have a fit Haring b4 Scott Brown every day of the week :-)

That was quite a while ago though.  He has gained more game knowledge since then.

I'm not saying as a permanent thing, just as needs must.

Hopefully Haring is back very soon.

Starting the season without Haring, Lee and Djoum is absolute balls. The fact that the new midfielder will just be a replacement for Haring probably also means we won’t be replacing Djoum/Lee with the creativity that we need. Whatever way you now slice it, the starting midfield this season is poorer than last, although I acknowledge that a fit Walker and Naismith will help get goals.
