UEFA don’t recognise the Fairs Cup as a competition. I presume because qualification was by invite only and all matches were seen as pre season friendlies.

It would be like counting the current  International Champions Cup as a competitive tournament.

You’ll need to do a bit more reading, bud.

The clubs in the first five European Cups were selected by a French football magazine !

They selected Hibs for crying out loud !

Who cares what UEFA recognise !

That’s the spirit. Let’s include the friendly against Arbroath while we’re at it.

Im thinking if UEFA don’t recognise those matches then they don’t count as matches in European competition.

Radio were saying last night that next week’s 2nd leg will be McInnes’s 30th European game as Aberdeen Manager in 5 seasons.

We’ve played 68 European matches in our entire history. Not so sure it’s been Aberdeen that are to blame for our poor coefficient ranking.

McInnes seems to have been Aberdeen manager in Europe for 21 games and has only won 8. Really poor record against mostly beatable teams.

Contrast with Craig Levein 4 wins from 7 games and against much better opposition in most cases. Levein's wins were also against considerably better teams.

What about Killie and Hibs in recent seasons?  The last two seasons Aberdeen went out against Burnley now a decent Croatian mob.  It’s losing to even shitter league that’s made it worse.  Aberdeen get part of the blame but not mainly down to them. Maltese and Luxembourg sides have turned Scottish teams over recently too.

Celtic failed to reach the champions league which didn’t help, neither did Hibs against Molde or Rangers against that Progres side. Killie losing to the welsh side is a far worse disaster.

I agree that the Killie result was poorer than this sheep result. And others have dropped points too but which of all the teams who have competed over the last 6 seasons have dropped the most points overall? That has to be the sheep.

They have had  6 consecutive cracks at Europe and never got through QR3 and you have to wonder what another side let's say Hearts could do with 6 consecutive attempts.

McInnes is 12 wins in 29 games.

The teams that have beaten Aberdeen in European ties are:

- Real Sociedad

- Kairat Almaity

- Maribor

- Burnley

We have played 50 matches in UEFA/Europa League in our 145 year history. Aberdeen have played 30 matches  in the last 5 years. Let’s not try and pretend we are better than them in any shape or form currently.

We only needed one attempt under Craig. We made it to the group stage at the first time of asking, with a poorer team than Aberdeen have had the last few years (Neil Janczyk, Joe Hamill and Dennis Wyness anyone?) and beating very decent opposition in Braga to qualify. Made quite a decent fist of a difficult group too.

Sorry you're right. I made the mistake of relying on the Daily Record instead of Wikipedia. Number of matches is irrelevant given the number of qualifiers needed these days. From those teams only Real Sociedad is of any great quality.

The point is 12 wins in 29 games is shite. Craig Levein is a much better European game manager going by their respective records. Even John McGlynn got better individual game results than McInnes in drawing with Liverpool and Spurs.

‘The format has vastly changed since then.

We got into the group stages with one away goals tie in 2007/2008 and managed to get out of the groups in 3rd place

when Hearts got into the groups they also only had to win one tie.

now you need to win 4 ties against increasingly harder teams due to seeding.

You're right.

UEFA dont recognise the Fairs Cup but only because it had nothing to do with them. When it was scrapped in 1971 they stepped in with the UEFA Cup to replace it but it had nothing to do with it's, so called, forerunner.

FIFA, however, do acknowledge the Fairs Cup as a major trophy.

Forever Hearts

Just watched the highlights of the Rangers game. That was a very good performance by them against decent opposition.

Means jack shit if the teams in the first European Cup were invited by a magazine !

The point i’m trying to make. WTF a friendly against Arbroath has to do with anything is baffling.

Hibs finished 5th in 1955. They were invited and accepted. Another great first for them !

😂

Noticed Celtic are 1 down tonight in their return leg against Cluj. Here’s hoping Cluj pull this off.

Won't last but quite funny regardless.

Few of the bigger names struggling..Porto down 2-0 at home to Krasnodar and need 2 goals to get through at least

Ajax ahead only on away goals

A league winner and Champions League semi finalist having to go through the qualifiers, utter farce of a setup.

1-0 Cluj at half-time.

Celtic will win by 3 goals at least.

Not in the game I'm watching.

More likely to be 2-1 to Cluj

Hope these strobe lights don't get another outing in the CL. Celtic tv commentary lamenting the fact it's not a domestic referee.

Celtic fail to win tonight and their season is as good as done.  They can win as many domestic trophies as they want, but failure to qualify for the CL means they’ve progressed no more than we have to be honest.

Not really, if Cluj can get  one goal they would go through on away goals.

Yeah I know I just can’t see them losing this for some reason. Just used to them sneaking through or seeing a game out now they’re ahead.
