A draw was enough for them to take the title on goal average but Rangers were actually losing late on. They equalised. 1-1. Not sure if it's true but legend has it that Queen of the South got a corner in the dying seconds. The Rangers captain asked the ref how long to go and the answer he got was something along the lines of "dinnae worry, big man, they're no' scoring". Queen's did score but it was, mysteriously, disallowed. Shouldn't laugh, if true, as it's another indication of the bias in the Scottish game but it stopped Hibs winning the title so feck them. milky_26
how was goal average calculated? was it goals scored per game excluding those conceded?

Goals scored divided by goals conceded. Crazy system that lasted a ridiculously long time.

In the early years there was a 'play off' to decide the winners. In the first season Dumbarton and Rangers were equal on points. After a draw in the playoff game BOTH were decalred joint winners. In between two league victories over Hearts Dumbarton LOST the Cup Final in 1891. In 1905 Celtic defeated Rangers 2–1 in a play-off for the title after the teams finished level on points.
