And there was kickback thinking Killie would just fall away next season.

I mean they still might. I doubt it now tho!

Seems a decent appointment. It will take a great effort by any manager to do better than, if not as good as Steve Clarke though.

And why was he appointed to those jobs? Because of his managerial experience as an assistant at the highest level. We're talking about the SPL here.

It's not been the SPL for years.

Took West Brom to their highest league position in decades. Repeated the trick at Killie.

Took WBA to their highest ever finish in the top flight. Every manager gets sacked at some point. Sir Alex at St Mirren, Levein at Leicester and Scotland etc etc

Not highest ever, highest since  81. Finished 8th. Only won 19 of 68 matches in charge,  sacked after four months in second season. Not what I’d call a success.

This is why I'm beginning to hate Killie.

Too many "Hearts fans" getting a full rage - on about everything they do while most just slag of Hearts and find fault in everyway they can.

The guy might do well, he might not.

It's a complete punt on an unknown as he has no management experience at all and is a good age.

No experience in Scotland, no mgt experience to speak off.

Cool sounding name, foreign and a good coach by all accounts and decent ambition shown by the club.

Much like us with Cathro tbh and folk still use that to batter CL and Ann about the head with.

There are positives and negatives, like every appointment, but those using this to have a got at Hearts should really just get a st for rugby park and be done with it.

You hate Killie because they are punching above their weight, finishing 3rd and qualifying for Europe? A bit strange no?

Sir Alex did not get sacked at St Mirren because of team performance nor did he get sacked at any point from every other club he was at.

Once more you need to do a bit more research before posting.

I think he finds your attitude towards Hearts strange.  For someone that hates the club as much as you clearly do, and have a now 3 year running boycott, it is bizarre that you are never off this forum sticking the boot in and bigging up Hibs, Aberdeen, Kllie, or whoever is flavour of the month in the league.

Give it a rest and leave the club for people who actually want to support it.

Certainly a bold appointment and to be applauded.

He has little recent experience as the main man but will have built up valuable knowledge etc as an assistant in the UK and abroad.

Edit: apologies I do see you've now fielded this comparison a few times now. That'll teach me to read threads through before replying

You're on a thread about Killie's new manager.  I think a lot of Hearts fans are a bit p***ed off when they see other clubs, with a fraction of our gates and resources, making ambitious appointments that see them punch above their weight. Especially when other fans trot out regurgitated lines about "who would we get" when anyone advocates change. A quick phone call to Billy Bowie would answer that one.

I'm beginning to hate Killie because "Hearts fans" Continue to use them to beat our club around the head with.

Everything they do has certain posters salivating and then having digs at us.

Also, yes they are performing better than us and beat us more than they should so I dislike them, like  I do other clubs.

More than I should tbh.

Back on topic, this signing could go either way, bit like us with Cathro.

Aye right enough Al. Ironic from someone who actively supports retaining a status quo that has failed, while expecting a different result each season.

What status quo am I supporting to be retained? Just because I don't agree with the rubbish you repetitively trot out that does not mean I support something which is the polar opposite.

There is black and there is white and there are various shades of grey in between.

Yes, you've scored a point.

He did get sacked but that had sod all to do with his competence as a manager.  It was clear enough that we were talking about's Clarke's results etc.

I haven't heard of him and therefore have no idea how it will pan out.

However, Kilmarnock have invited applications, done their homework and decided that he is the best man for the job within their budget. Not unlike Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Hibs, Motherwell, Alloa, Fort William...

Not us. We just plough on with CL, despite recruitment, performances, tactics, results...suggesting that he isn't the best we could do.

Every other club is appointing to progress, we, at best, are just marking time until someone else is calling the shots and acts accordingly.

Seems ambitious on the face of it but could easily end up as disastrous as it could inspired.

I know nothing of the man or his philosophies on the game. What I will say is Scottish football is robust and unforgiving.

Many have failed trying to implement a style that simply isn’t compatible with our game here.

Time will tell.

Cathro was an experiment that failed but that does not mean that every similar appointment will fail.  It's not like we were laden with trophies with our previous conventional style appointments.

IC's main problem seems to have been failure to communicate both with his players and the vultures, sorry, the press.  This guy is around 30 years older and one would expect him to be better equipped and experienced.  Only time will tell.

He's held supporting roles at various high profile sides. Will be interesting to see how this shapes out for him.

His background is similar - but not quite as decorated - to Paul Clement who'd be a great appointment for our league.

This appointment has disaster written all over it! Never managed and especially in a country he’s not used to the football. Good cv on paper but doubt will last the season

The main fans pissed off seem to be you and a select bunch of trolls.

No success though and not really had a job since. 8 months, 11 months and 9 months in his three management jobs. Yet 7 successful seasons as Anceloti’s  assistant. His track record looks very much like what Alessio’s could be in a years time.

I would wait a bit before proclaiming him the second coming and slagging Hearts off for not appointing a foreign assistant manager. ?

Billy Bowie is gambling a no doubt sizeable manager salary - very possible more than ours - on finding Steve Clarke II and maybe picking up some loans from Chelsea or Italy. Maybe he’ll do it but this guy is a rookie first team manager even compared to Clarke so definitely a risky but interesting appointment.

I can’t think of many long term assistants who have stepped up and been that successful. Peter Taylor won everything as

an assistant to Clough and pretty much failed when he tried on his own.

Maybe after Cathro - one of the most ambitious appointments ever in Scotland - Budge wanted to play it safe and the season had already started so time was running out. I thought Dougie Freedman was a very exciting and ambitious target personally. Some you win...

What is it about Alessio, a 54 year old who has never managed at this level, that makes you think it's an ambitious appointment out of interest?

Anyhow, here's a list of EPL assistant managers and what they do. Maybe we can tempt one of them away? Seems to be a very specialist role though and a willingness to promote youth is a key ask for our future managers so we'll always look for someone with a record of working with and improving young players.

I agree that Freedman was an ambitious choice and it was unfortunate that he got the DOF role. We should have widened the search at that point imo.

Alessio will immediately command respect from the players, given the level he has worked at, and won trophies at. He has worked with top players along with Conte and will have vast experience to bring to the club. Steven Gerrard too was an ambitious appointment with next to no experience in management and he did well last season.

Looking at the Derby sacking, he had them 5 points off top spot at the time. Crazy! Some owners just panic when a few points slip by.

As Robbie Neilson did well for us. Rangers previous 3 managers bombed. Some you win etc... Killie appointing a new manager shouldn’t be an excuse to knock Hearts.

Very intriguing appointment. He has a very good coaching CV, but as a manager, he's not guaranteed to bring success IMO.

For a club like Killie however, it's certainly a very exciting appointment and great to see someone with hopefully a bit of continental flair coming to our league.

Would imagine he's been promised a huge bonus if Killie get far in the Europa.
