pablo
Is it not just delaying the inevitable? There's about much chance of the Communist regime allowing HK to preserve it's special status as fly in the air. Can't see it lasting another 30 years anyway. The special status was only protected for fifty years I think.

But it's a bit of a conundrum for the Communist party. HK is successful because of the special status, so if you take it away, the international community and trade will decamp to Singapore or somewhere. On the other hand, they'll be hating the civil liberties hongkongers enjoy. Tricky one.

Because if they do, they'll lose the international business that makes HK the centre of trade in Asia.

Jambo-Jimbo
Only a matter of time before the Chinese authorities send in the troops. Once that happens, then it'll really kick off.

Cade
Playing right into China's hands. Giving them an excuse is a very bad idea.

I sense this is the beginning of the end game, they only have until 2047 when the current deal ends and China will absorb them. Closer that comes the less likely China are of backing off. If China move in now the backlash will be immense.
Jambo-Jimbo
Just passed an emergency law banning demonstrators from wearing face masks, comes into force tomorrow. Can't see how the police can enforce it, especially when tens of thousands demonstrators are wearing them, the police can't arrest them all.
