In your opinion what’s the greatest achievement in Scottish football?

Grow UP!

The thread is greatest achievement in SCOTTISH Football.  There was a time when the sick, internet fuelled spite was somewhat less than it is today.

PS Anyone who calls me a Celtic supporter will be afflicted by a plague of boils.

Get over yourself, I've acknowledged the achievement. What I will never say is that I am proud of Celtic (or any other club) winning something. Understand?

Aye I get it but a "France 98 veteran" just sounds shite regardless.

Like I said though, if you're happy then whats not to love?

You seem a helluva lot more concerned about the term than me.

Dunfermline had some good results in Europe back in the day too.

Given the game has changed so much due to money, quite impressive some of our league clubs exist still, even more impressive are those that continually punch above their weight without endangering themselves financially.

As much as I detest Celtic I have to say that their achievement in winning the EC in 67 and doing so with a team of local lads stands above all for me.   As a Scotsman I am proud of their achievement coz let's not forget it was a team of 11 Scots ?

Not sure why the thread didn't stop here. There really isn't any competition.

Would that have been down to the 1 club per city rule?

I think Clyde finished third in the late '60's but were overlooked as Rangers, who'd finished 2nd, took a Fairs Cup place. The place then filtered down to the next club from an unrepresented city/town.

I'm not 100% sure, tbh. Before my time but I think I read/heard such a rule was in place.

No that rule came in later 1966-67. Excluding Cup Winner's Cup entries

1959-60 1-Heart Of Midlothian EURO
1959-60 2-Kilmarnock Went to International Soccer League in New York
1959-60 4-Dundee Overlooked
1959-60 5-Motherwell Overlooked
1959-60 6-Clyde Overlooked

1959-60 7-Hibernian ICFC

1960-61 1-Rangers EURO
1960-61 2-Kilmarnock Went to International Soccer League in New York
1960-61 3-Third Lanark Overlooked
1960-61 4-Celtic Overlooked
1960-61 5-Motherwell Overlooked
1960-61 6-Aberdeen Overlooked

1960-61 7-Heart Of Midlothian ICFC
1960-61 8-Hibernian ICFC

1961-62 1-Dundee EURO & Went to International Soccer League in New York

One poster did indeed say he was proud of the fact that a Scottish club had won the EC.

It doesn't change the fact that Forever Hearts continues to post drivel on here while coming over as a complete zoomer. One of the main contributors to the debate on here sadly being so shite at times.

For me it's got to be Dundee Utd reaching the final of the UEFA cup in 1987, eliminating Barcelona along the way by beating them both home and away in Camp Nou.

Just still existing, and maintaining decent attendances despite being run as a racket to only protect two clubs for decades.

Good post. I said something similar on another thread.

FWIW, I think the three European trophies and Utd's amazing runs in the 80s are all very worthy candidates and they were driven by competitive leagues with 4 or 5 teams all putting in credible challenges.

The last serious challenge was derailed by Brines. The day I effectively gave up believing.

Whatever happened to the ref of that game, Euan Norris? Did he ever ref another big game?

It seems that Collum, Beaton, Madden etc ref our games against the arse cheeks time after time because they give the 'correct' decisions.

Dunno. Maybe opted for the quiet life somewhere. Like being a lighthouse keeper somewhere off Cape Cod.

I do know that when it happened, I turned to my son and told him the chances of him seeing something like that happening again were slim to non-existent.

FWIW, I'm opting for McLean's United as the real outstanding achievement - a couple of dodgy decisions away from being up there with Clough's Forest.

I did!  One person saying proud does not give you the licence to accuse me of being proud.

Your inability to post sense is so glaringly obvious to everyone but yourself!

Take off the blue tinted glasses!

:D Actually, not a bad comeback. Maybe there's hope yet. Just remember that if someone has a pop at Rangers, or expresses anything other than complete disdain for Celtic, you *don't* need to be there to defend or support the boys in blue.

What a good question that is.  Should have scrolled down to see if there is an answer.

Definitely not the mindset of a PHM. Unfortunately, we have pricks that believe that is what makes a Hearts fan.
