Cannae help but think 3 teams will end up on 4 points

Can't see that happening.* Very possible that 3 teams will end up on 2 points, if they all lose to England and draw with each other. In which case, Scotland would be well placed, having only lost by one goal.

*Unless England go to pieces (seems unlikely), drawing with Argentina and losing to Japan. Then if Scotland beat Japan and drew with Argentina, that would leave 3 teams on 4 points, with Argentina on 3. Even if we didn't come 1st or 2nd on goal difference, we'd surely go through as a 'best-placed' 3rd if we had 4 points.

But I agree with your general thinking - if there's a novel and excruciating way to not qualify, Scotland are likely to find it.

The last paragraph was my point.

You've done your research tho... ?

Not going through on GD as a third place team also an option?

That would be our style to go out. ?

You don’t think some of those players yesterday could get a game for Queen of the South or Rochdale? ?

Of course they wouldn’t.  Their top international teams get hammered by 15 year old boys clubs so how could they possibly compete with full time professional men’s teams?

Hopefully Scotland can go further than their male counterparts have and encourage more girls to take the game up.  However, I can’t see there ever being enough interest here for it to be a proper professional sport unless maybe at a part time level like Cowdenbeath, East Fife, etc.

If folk pay them enough then they could be tbh.

Professional just means it's a career.

Womens tennis players are shite (compared to men) but still professional.

Professional just means they'll do that as a job, market forces will dictate the pay.

It's like saying players at Hearts shouldn't be professional because they are shite compared to Liverpool.

In reality, Liverpool players just get paid far more, but both teams are professional, tho.

But Hearts can draw crowds of 20,000 with fans paying over £30.  Plus tv income from Sky, etc.  They could also remain a full time professional club without tv income.

Who’s going to pump the money into Scottish women’s football to enable them to be full time professionals?  It’s not self sustainable when they only get a handful of people watching them and no live tv. I can’t even see how it could be self sustainable in England.

If the likes of Raith Rovers are having to go partially part time, how can our women’s teams ever hope to go full time?

Nothing like a Woman's football thread to bring out the Misogynists.

But the women’s game is always going to be compared to the male equivalent. It’s inevitable.

By the way, it was one of the women’s games ‘supporters’ on here that said women cannot run, a truly ludicrous statement.

Run?, they should be at home, running the house. The dinner won't make itself.

The comments that are designed to try and make the commentator feel better about themselves, by running down elite female athletes, because they lack the physical attributes to compete with men.

Men finding women attractive, doesn’t really bother me in the slightest.

You run down male athletes. What's the difference.  Equality! ?

They're obviously not talented enough to spit.

No segregation in the crowd either - what kind of football is that?? Ridiculous. Once there's fighting in the stands, only then do they deserve professional status.

Segregation? There's nobody there.

If someone is willing to pay them enough money to make a living out of it and enough fans want to watch their matches (like the 16k yesterday in attendance and the millions watching on TV) then why should it remain amateur? ??‍♂️

16000  They sold 13000 tickets and about half turned up.

You do? Get a grip. The USA team were hammered by an under 16s or 18s team about 50 nil.

I think it’s a shame that some men are so insecure about themselves, that they feel the need to try and attack women to feel better. It’s just my opinion, but I think it makes them the sort of socially inadequate ***** that you need to watch your female relatives around.

I said they could be professional.

Market forces will ofc dictate if that happens. Or not.

My guess is it would defend on TV money and what the clubs divert to it.

Man City, arsenal, Chelsea etc aren't short of a few bob. Throwing a few £m at their respective women's teams is hardly a stretch.

It's Likley if anything.

Professional could mean £50k salaries, not £100k a week.

If I was guessing, England will be pro soon, just because there is that much money down there but I have no real knowledge or inside info. They could be professional tho, depends on when and who throws money at it, not if they can compete with the men.

This thread has made me question my world view. We don't agree on Hearts topics often but I find myself 100% agreeing with Olly and now To Be Frank as well.

I'm away for a lie down.
