When I worked in New Register House, the choice of pub was either the Buffs or the Guildford, depending on the time of the month.

 

My stag do started in the Buffs in 1993.  It was a popular watering hole for the messengers and Repository Assistants, or RAs as they were called, in GRO and SRO.

 

The wee takeaway cafe round the corner did a mean burger and chips.

 

The Penny Black was some place as well.  Bizarre passing it at 8am and the karaoke would be in full swing.

did the buffs club not have a little hatch in the door so that they could suss you out before you were allowed in or am i thinking of another club in central Edinburgh.
