Morrison would only be guaranteed a game at either us, or Hibs. Wages aren't an issue for a millionaire.

Naismith will be given the task of recruiting him. Expect to see him with us before the season starts.👍🏻

I hope your right but just can’t see why a player coming into probably his final contract, would sign for a club offering say  3 grand a week instead of a championship team offering nearer 10 grand. It wouldn’t even be like he’s coming home.

If we're chucking names out there how about Yohan Cabaye? Experienced, classy, dead ball specialist and out of contract so ticks a lot of boxes. Sadly is likely to be miles out of reach financially.

I'm a big fan of 'you don't ask, you don't get'.

There have been plenty of players in the past that arguably we had no right to sign, sometimes a good pitch could make up for the lack of money on offer (provided we are stretching as far as possible budget wise). I think the feeling of being wanted can be a big seller for players, likewise, short term deals to get them back in the shop window, can again help get them over the line.

I'm not for a minute suggesting we have a hope in hell of signing Cabaye, but making contact and trying could make what seems the impossible happen. Sometimes having a particular vision for the club helps bring players on board, look at Naisy, could probably have signed for a top League 1 club and made a few grand more but a.) wanted back to scotland and b.) bought into leveins vision. Lafferty wanted back in the shop window for the huns, Tzolis.. I don't really know why he was here, likely to get match fit? Anyway, point stands.

Maybe he fancies something different after 15 years spent mostly in the Championship. 46 games a season plus cup games and potential playoff games, the majority of which take place in shithole towns the length and breadth of England must get pretty tiring after a while.

Concentrating on the cricket and not really following this closely.  Does this guy Morrison have a choice between Hearts and Hibs?

That's a tough one. 😀

William H. Bonney

His entire career had been spent in England. It's not like he's coming home. I doubt very much he'll end up at a Scottish club. More then likely an English championship side

Agree.  There’s alot of good players coming to the end of their time at the top end of the game.

Its still the personal outlook and needs of the player that can dictate but if they relax their demands from the usual level, you can get these players , as you say, by selling them an attractive proposition and still give them a decent living.

Naismith (again as you point out) and possibly even Washington took a bit persuasion?

He’s played Cochrane plenty of times ahead of more physical players and done it in some very big matches. Your argument makes no sense.

Yes - that is my point. You asked why he played Cochrane and I replied as had been through necessity as we had ignored signing ball playing midfielders to such an extent that we had to rely on a 16 year old to knit the team together. I tell you what does make no sense - pretending you’re in the know with team selection 👌

West Brom are my English team, seen lots of James Morrison through the years, would be a signing on a par with Naisy if we pulled this off.

Are you not slightly contradicting yourself with these highlighted points?

You then move to Edwards who I think we can agree is not that type of player, then to haphazard team selection and the coaching staff.

You appear to be on about the management and moving miles away from Summer transfers.

The summer transfers are linked to the style the manager wants to play and I’m simply referencing tangible examples of when the overall approach should be questioned re selection, treatment, playing style and individual players that have been signed previously.

For the Scottish premier league, probably.

Clare, Walker, Lee. Hardly examples of players who's game is based around brawn and physicality.

Now Martin is the one that got away? Kickback really has jumped the shark this summer.

Are any of these players playmaking and game controlling midfielders? Two are injury prone and one is leaving which Levein is fine with.

i wish jj was my dad

Would take Morrison in a heartbeat

Heard we are after a quality midfielder. He is certainly that. Would be on a par with SN if we goy him.

Did we actually try for bryson, coz if we did and aberdeen still got him I wonder what our chances are of bagging morrison?

Would be a huge signing.

Van Morrison could play in our league.

He’s from Belfast, I’m surprised Austin hasn’t tapped him up yet.

Morrison would stroll games in this league with a Cuban cigar in his mouth and a Jack Daniels in hand.

Yes they are playmakers. Your argument was that Levein doesn't like to sign this style of player, preferring physicality. Whether they are injury prone or turn out to be good enough once they are there is entirely irrelevant to the point you were making.

That's good if you don't see any contradictions, Davy.

He may have played Edwards because it was the right game to do so.  You need a pressing game against Celtic with players prepared and fit enough to keep running/harrying as we did against them when we beat them 4-0 and 1-0.  Edwards fits that bill and CL was proved right but you wouldn't be able to see anything CL does in a positive light.

Is it something in the water in Hamilton that means there are more questions than answers from the posters there!
