Clare and Mulraney are available to start and will be first choice this season. Walker will be on the bench tonight and will also probably be first choice in midfield. The only thing missing is Haring and we’ll have Bozanic or Edwards deputising for him. Hardly makeshift in my eyes. Mulraney isn’t a central midfielder. Clare still has it all to prove, so it’s not as if we’re going into competitive games knowing he’s a proven, trusted figure. Maybe these matches will be about that? Seeing how much he can influence and impose himself ahead with of tougher matches in the SPL.

Anyhow, I'm not sure Bridcutt would add anything of real value . What do you think? Can’t say I know a hell of a lot about him, 30 yo so probably looking for a last big contract somewhere which will probably rule him out. If we’re looking down south they’re just back in training and the market hasn’t really heated up yet. A loan signing might be the best option, we have been able to pay for guys from big clubs before but it depends on how much is in the pot and when/if Lee goes. IMO it was LB and we have signed White with Hickey as back-up, and Burns at a push. Or we could go 3 at the back. Midfield and in particular centre midfield is where I feel we are weakest. At the moment we have very little creativity, pace, guile or strength in the middle of the pitch. The current central midfielders don't fill me with much enthusiasm or hope at all. At 30 he’ll be looking for a decent contract, so if he had offers from other Championship clubs we can probably forget it. Naismith has proven that Hearts can be a route back into the national squad though, and with a new manager in place Bridcutt might fancy his chances. Le Chat
I think tonight showed that Sean Clare is not the answer in centre midfield. In a game against some Championship plodders at home he should be grabbing it by the scruff of the neck and dominating that area. He didn't even come close. I hope CL goes for 2 CM's as I just don't see it working with Clare in there.
