How United got through extra time with eleven men still on the pitch is a mystery. And United didn’t offer nearly enough. They looked to have better quality in a lot of areas, but that was a lethargic performance which richly merited what it got. That has an awful familiar ring to it. Lethargic is the right word, simply waiting for something to happen rather than forcing the issue.
