The English Premier League needs more clubs like Leeds and Sheffield United and less of the Bournemouth and Brighton. But watching them implode so magnificently is brilliant. Now, the away goals rule is intended to encourage the away team to be more aggressive."

Lovecraft
Good article here about how the away goal rule is outdated and actually anti-football. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45460290 The rule's critics argue that things have now tipped too far in the away side's favour, forcing home teams to adopt increasingly defensive tactics out of fear of conceding. Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been banging this drum for a decade. "I believe the tactical weight of the away goal has become too important," he told a conference in 2008. "Teams get a 0-0 draw at home and they're happy. Instead of having a positive effect it has been pushed too far tactically in the modern game. It has the opposite effect than it was supposed to have. It favours defending well when you play at home." Teams are certainly scoring less at home now than they have in any previous decade of European club competition... I quite like the away goal rule as it cuts down on teams playing for extra time and penalties as that scenario can occur less often. Edit: didn't realise there was so much more content in the link. I'll have a read of that, might change my opinion of the rule. Edited May 15, 2019 by Taffin

Calebs Grandad
Brilliant match that had everything. Writing was on the wall for Leeds when they led 10 man Wigan 1-0 at Elland Road but managed to lose 1-2 before going down 2-0 at Brentford next match. Absolutely cruising towards automatic promotion before wheels fell off. Their support is simply incredible and deserved better.
