When it's all said and done; 12,500 ST's when we've had two 6th place finishes just goes to show that we Jambos are second to none.

Simple.

Rangers and Newcastle are the two teams I always think of when folk say stuff like this. They've both won nothing for years and years and years but pack out their stadiums and sell incredible numbers of season tickets. Rangers weren't anywhere near winning anything last season and have sold record numbers, again.

Rangers fans think that they will surely come good as it’s their god given right. ?

Newcastle I agree.

The Rangers are a political institution their loyalty is more to do with sectarianism than football.

Even then how many STs do you think they would sell with successive mid table finishes ?

How many STs do you think they would sell if they if they went 60 years without winning the league ?

To compare the loyalty of the Rangers in the same breath as Newcastle is laughable imo.

They finished 3rd two season in a row and sold 40k plus. If anything the fact that they've gone from winning everything to winning nothing makes the levels of season ticket sales more impressive. At least Newcastle fans are getting to see some of the best players on the planet whilst being absolutely bang average. You are completely wrong about the sectarian part, their raison d'etre is to stop 10 in a row. Nothing else matters and the sectarian element is secondary to the desire to win the league and get back to what they once were.

Don’t want to drag this much further off topic, but is this something that people get excited about? As a Hearts supporter, I’ve been lucky enough to watch Caniggia, Gaza, Laudrup, Larsson, Suarez, Kuyt and Van see Vaart amongst others line up against us in competitive matches. This had zero positive impact on me as a Hearts supporter though. Generally I’d rather the opposition were shite. Certainly wouldn’t improve my chances of buying a season ticket.

I think it does. Reason that Celtic spent £5m on disco lights to welcome their Champions League overlords. How excited would we be to play in a Champions League group with Ajax, Manchester City and Basel? The EPL is full of teams full of international players from across the globe.

I’m probably a bit odd this way, but genuinely, I don’t care about any players that aren’t playing for my side. I don’t get any enjoyment out of them playing against us.

Not far off our Europa League group of Schalke, Basel, Feyenoord and Ferencvaros. Was pretty excited about that. Probably the highest level we have played and by no means disgraced.

A big factor but "all about sectarianism" is as much of an exaggeration as saying Celtic is all about Irish nationalism.

1985 Rangers v Hearts at Ibrox. Rangers won 3-1. Attendance giving that day as 12,000. I was one of them along with two shipmates who were Leeds United and Lincoln City supporters. Were in the upper Broomloan stand that day.

Nobody has said that, as far as I am aware. The point was that they're more interested in winning the league than hating Catholics. They do hate Catholics though,  not exclusively. A large swathe of their support are that way inclined though ...

I don't know the exact number of STs sold last season but would I be right in saying  that, going by the latest figures, there has been no "mass walk-out" as the prophets of doom suggested?

Correct! Think the sales have been good and increasing daily, still 6 weeks to go before first home league game aswell

The most reliable comparison is that Hearts announced just over 13k sold at 01/08/2018 .

With 3 weeks to go it looks like figures will be similar this year.

Certainly not a mass walk out.

Some people will be proved wrong AGAIN?

Notice you didn't answer my point about not winning the league for sixty years☺

The mindset of the average Hun is based on the belief that they are 'the people' they know that their board will beg, borrow and steal to catch Celtic because they have been used to dominating for over 130 years.

Once Celtic reach TEN IN A ROW (and they will) the Rangers will either be bust or their support will disappear back into their caves.

Scottish football is dominated by two POLITICAL  INSTITUTIONS .

Fans of Hearts and Hibs their rivalry is based on local rivalry and family tradition handed down from father to son. The OF rivalry is much more sinister and Scotland's shame.

Hearts and Hibs both have much to be proud of in recent years in the way that attendances and ST sales have been increased despite no league success for 60 years and 67 years respectively.

If I could see sixty years into the future then I would be down at the casino! They’ve not done anything for over 8 seasons and have managed to increase season ticket sales. Of course both clubs are sectarian but I believe it’s secondary to their desire to win the Premiership. The same applies to Celtic, they’ve got an entire song book based around 10 in row!

Nicely put.

Also off topic but current, Newcastle fans are very loyal.

Not trophy for 6 decades and very unlikely to get near one again (like 95% of English teams), but still get 50k.

Tbh, I'd hate being a Newcastle Everton fan or the likes.

Everton type club must be worst. Little prospect of every doing or winning anything, never getting relegated.

Can't see what there is to get excited about.

Wigan and Leicester might give these teams hope, but it's a mighty long shot and gets less Likley each year.

To be fair, I think the angst felt at the end of the season gets offset by the reality of not having any games for six weeks.

We miss the fitba whether we like to admit that or not. New season optimism kicks in & people renew their STs.

Everton, Newcastle...

Spurs have won one fa Cup in over 25 years.

1 lc

Top of my head, maybe 4 finals?

Hearts have been to 7 finals.

That's Spurs (a team on the up and that is now a top 4 side) , teams like Everton, Southampton, Newcastle, West ham etc have a small chance of a final, but as the last ten years have shown almost no chance of winning it, the top 3/4 are pulling away at a rate of knotts as well.

The middle of the road teams have little or no chance of winning a cup and are too good for relegation, time will tell but clubs like Everton could go 30 years without a trophy, Newcastle could make 75 years very easily.

Aston villa - staying up will be good for them.

I'd rather be up here, at least we have hope, my bosses are Newcastle and spurs fans, as a Hearts fan I'd seen us won more in our life times than both of them together.

Quality is shite, but boring it is not.

Nah, perfectly normal.

I never bought a St and thought, great I'll get to see Larrson bang in 15 goals against us over 4 games or yee ha-can't wait until Gazza and Laudrup tear us for arsepaper.

I'd rather the other other teams were complete piss or we we far better, surely most Hearts fans buy a St to watch Hearts.

In the Epl, I think fans do at certain clubs buy a St for the big matches and to  see world class players for other teams.

Imo Part of the problem with that league, I bet a good % of some supports are football fans as opposed to supporting their actual club with any passion.

Everton have the potential to expand their fanbase quite a bit.

I believe there is talk of them moving to a new stadium near the docks.

Same sort of scenario as Spurs.

You can't seriously compare Everton with Wigan ?

Anyway off topic again.

The main thing is Hearts seem to be on track to match last year's sales despite some horrendous form last season.

That's what you call loyalty?

Everton are far bigger than Wigan, but can't see either winning a cup anytime soon.

Wigan have won a trophy far more recently than Everton as well.

When do Everton become a Leeds or a Notts forest, a villa or even a Preston?

A Successful team at one point but not for Almost 25 years and counting.

Middle table team that does not win trophies or even get to finals often anymore.

Little or no danger of relegation tho.

My point was that fans of these teams, West ham, Southampton--middle league sides etc are too good to get relegated, but miles of the top 4 or top 6 and with the gap widening, have very little hope or excitement.

If big transfer fees and to see good players is your thing you'll have a hoot, if playing football matches that mean anything to your club is what you want they will be in short supply.

Us, Aberdeen, hibs etc can nab a cup and get to a final quite realistically, also finish high in the league.

It's all relative, but we get excitement.

Not long ago we were wanting to cut the Old Firms ticket allocation because of our Season Ticket sales. We now have a new main stand and with our capacity now a few thousand higher we'll be happy to give them the whole of the Roseburn Stand. We still have plenty of seats available to walk up fans so at least fans who haven't renewed will get into Hearts games.

Seen some cracking players domestically and in Europe, but if they ain't in a Hearts shirt then **** them. Looking back, it's great to talk about the greats I've seen, but it's the 11 in the maroon that I care more about.

I've no idea what's happening with the Roseburn seats. The club will probably still be selling them via the ticket office. There's no indication of anyone being moved otherwise we would have seen a bigger fall in the dot count for the other stands.

At the last count of the Roseburn, an estimated 224 had been sold, but sales were only averaging 1 or 2 a day.
