Wasn't meant as a dig at Mulraney tbh, I like him. As you say he's improved a lot.  My point was he's pretty much our first choice wide player and Nicholson would offer more at this point.

Agree with all that mate

I'd rather have Mulraney than the Sam Nicholson that played for us during the last year of his contract.

Take nicholson back in a heartbeat. Same for Walker both were attacking creative players. What we're crying out for

I quite like watching the MLS on Sky and have not seen Nicholson this season and his team aren’t that great either. I have seen the ex Dundee United player (forget his name) and he is doing quite well.

No idea what he is like now. He wasn't necessarily the most consistent, but I would suggest that Sam Nicholson in full flow and on song was one of the finest sights I've seen at Tynecastle in recent years.

If Aberdeen are after Nicholson it probably means that GMS has turned down their contract offer/said he's leaving, in that case I'd rather we put an offer to GMS over Nicholson tbh

Easy far better than Clare ( maybe Clare is more talented but the guy mostly hides ) and would give a lot more effort as well.

Why would you compare him to Clare they play in different positions

Unless he has regressed substantially......

Nicholson is a better footballer than any of the other wingers we are currently paying.

Would take him back gladly. Great talent. Would be gutted if he went to Aberdeen.

He's been wanting a return to Scotland for some time. That's from his Dad.

That’s mental. Imagine not lapping up living over there. Danny Wilson plays for same team so he’s got a a familiar face as well.

Im sure I’d rather be over there for a few years as opposed to Aberfeckingdeen!?

Fwiw I’d take Sam back too. And Walker.

Glamorgan Jambo

His MLS contract is up at the end of this calendar year and it'll be touch and go whether he gets another one. He's on a fairly decent salary package (roughly 250K USD per year) so if he's on the fringes he's unlikely to get a renewal at that wage.

Would love to see him back at Hearts.

He’s a Jambo , if he does come back he would want to come back to Hearts ,so if it’s true Levein needs to move but I don’t think he will I think he sees Mulraney as his preference for next season

If ever you wanted to see an example of the"deceptive" sort of stuff that finds it's way under the noses of "recruitment" specialists all over the world, here it is. Nicholson looks an absolute world beater and how we didn't sell him for £10m is beyond me.

I'm particularly interested in hearing how much Martin was on.

He's seemingly trying to agreed a pre-contract, but it could fail on his one condition - he wants to keep his axe when playing the hobos.

ps he' s very serious - this was him at CL''s office door earlier today

Were we paying all their salary while they were out on loan?

Pity you have no idea how much Martin was on, I felt sure you must know seeing as you said his salary helped stretch our budget.

Edit: Actually you said their higher salaries stretched our budget, yet you have no idea how much Martin was on. I'm confused.

Think we are all sounding to Levein-esque in this debate.

Lucky if one one or two on this thread have seen anything of him or know any of his stats but everyone seems to have a very clear view - either he will have improved since leaving and would be a great signing or he had some attitude issues when he left and won’t have changed so don’t touch him.

I wouldn’t consider making a call without having some understanding of how the US has changed him - for better or worse.

But it does give some people an opportunity to have a go at some of the guys here comparing a fantasy Nicholson to them.

We’ve yet to replace him. Would take him back in a second if he’d come. Had the ability to grab a tricky game by the scruff of the neck and turn it into a win. Folk can argue about consistency all they want (I agree he wasn’t effective 100% of the time) but someone like him would’ve helped us pick up a good chunk of the stupid points we’ve dropped this year, exactly the type of player we’ve missed

Been a regular starter for Colorado so be interesting to see if he does actually move. Would’ve thought if he was to come back to Scotland he’d come back to us. Will be a good addition to the Aberdeen squad. Exactly the type of player we should be looking at but exactly the type of player Levein won’t look at

Not his fault I know but I reckon he’s gone backwards since leaving us.

Classic kickback

Good news for the Aberdeen branch of Nando’s.

Wouldn't mind seeing Sam come back tbh. If Aberdeen are in for him, we should be too. Not convinced with our current wide options.

Significantly better than anything we have out wide at the moment. Its silly to pretend he isn’t a far better player than Morrison and Mulraney.

Aye, so am I especially when you read the guff in the erstwhile named "Edinburgh Evening News" last night where they ran a series of photos headed  "Which current Hearts players are likely to be at club for next season?"

https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sport/football/hearts/latest-hearts-news/which-current-hearts-players-are-likely-to-be-at-club-for-next-season-1-4923972

As you can see, if you can be arsed working your way through 10 pages of pure speculation (which could have been covered in one page but would'nt have produced the same "click" score) we are told the earth-shattering news: Malaury Martin - Maybe. He's free to leave, and has been for some time. No takers. One more year left on contract"

Well, it appears we know more than the EEN and there's no danger of him ever playing again for Hearts.

Well, Craig, that's another fine mess you've got us into. I like many others want to know what it's cost us.

Would take Nicholson over Mulraney every time, but we could easily get better over both of them

Nicholson is twice the player Mulraney is and has proven that in Scotland.

Was usually the first one to be rounded on after a dodgy result. Now he's the answer to all our problems. Standard.

Indeed. But casting our minds back we must remember Sam became predictable.

Its fine lines in football. No doubt Sam has a good brain, energetic, never hid but seemed to get in a rut with similar performances in the run up to leaving.

On his game though he was terrific. He could find the net and what I’ll say is, he’s one of few wingers in recent times who could.

Criticism of Mulraney would be lack of goals for a winger. Just seems to lack that little bit of cunning or punch in the last third to find a bit space to have a dig.

Bull's-eye

Usual stuff i see for a departed player.

Absolute Shite etc etc while he was a Hearts player, now a living legend and we need him back.

Standard fare.

He did, I think players sometimes need a change of pace and scenery. Coming back into the league I'd think/hope he'd be able to offer some refreshing.

The core of the question is, would he improve us? Is he a better player than Mulraney, Moore and Morrison? The answer to those questions is emphatically yes. McInnes isn't a dafty, he wants him because he sees a good player that can make an impact at this level. We should be in, even if we don't manage to do a deal it will at least make the dons pay over the odds.

Edit: Also think Jake would benefit from not having the pressure of being our main winger. Nicholson might help add an edge of competitiveness to Mulraneys game.

Was reading the Aberdeen forums and they seem to think they're in for Danny Wilson too.
