Does any country really want to win* it (thus avoiding hosting it the following year)? If the Irish entry was anything to go by, they've learnt the lesson. * Australia excepted. The Scandinavian countries - especially Sweden - are keen. IMHO it reached its nadir in the early / mid noughties. There are still some howlers but more countries are trying and there are fewer gimmicks and naff novelty songs (Australia’s Königin Der Nacht on a stick notwithstanding). Anyway, it’s still hugely popular and if it’s s***, it’s fun s*** in a world full of serious s*** and other channels are available.
