dannymack
In response to the unfortunate passing of Billy McNeil where Hugh Keevins has nominated on Celtics behalf to name the final for them the Billy McNeil final. For us, our club captain who lifted the cup in 1956 suffered the same ******* disease as Billy McNeil and left us on New Year's Day. Not a point scoring thread nor I hope for anyone to misunderstand my point as a disrespectful one, just poignant for us just as much for them. I completely agree with that, especially the bit about not making it point scoring. Billy McNeill was a total legend and JKB has shown total appreciation on the Billy McNeill RIP thread. Freddie Glidden is a Hearts legend not least for lifting the cup in 56. Both legends should be shown the respect they deserve. Keevins on the other hand......... Gambo
I hear what you are saying but let's make it about the 11 on the park in maroon. Glidden and McNeill have had their glory, time for new heroes.

And while not intended as point scoring it would be seen as such - after all no-one had suggested the "Freddie Glidden final" before. And great Hearts man as he was he doesn't rate in the pantheon of Scottish players with McNeill. Or even as a club legend with us equivalent to McNeill's status with Celtic. Notts1874
Let the press call it what they want. Celtic will rightly celebrate McNeill for the rest of the season and we can't stop that. As an aside I think all of Scottish football should celebrate his achievements this weekend at every game.

Thomaso
They can have their “Billy McNeill Final” We will have our “Freddie Glidden Final”
The Treasurer
If people felt it was necessary (which I don't) then there is plenty scope to remember both Scottish football legends before the Cup Final.

Doesn't say for everyone. It would be good to highlight two club legends leading up to final. No point scoring involved. I would be happy to see Billy McNeill celebrated leading up to the final. Doesn't change us going there to win it.
Jamhammer
They called the last one the salt and sauce final. I didnt. I won’t call this one the Billy McNeil final either. No disrespect but I’m hoping for a bubble burst final. **** Celtic and their media chums in particular Hugh ******* Keevins, to give him his full name

TexasAndy
Was only a matter of time before someone came out with the 'Billy McNeill Final Pish'. I always find this sort of thing an insult to the game and to the opponents. Like they have some sort of divine right to claim the game even before it starts. davemclaren
Freddie Glidden is more relevant to the final than Billy. He actually played in, and captained us, the last time we met, and beat them, in the final. .
