Celtic and Scotland legend Billy McNeil has sadly passed away.  Billy finally set free from the hell of dementia and thoughts now turn to his family.  How the heck did he only win 29 caps for Scotland?  By all accounts he was a true gentleman and will be fondly remembered.  Hail Caesar!

Billy Mc Neil RIP. Thoughts with his friends and family. Everything a team captain should be. Dwarves over the current Celtic one. Conducted himself with total dignity.

Sad news. An absolute colossus of a player. From all accounts an absolute gentleman off the park too.

A legend indeed

All roads lead to Gorgie

Very sad to hear. I can just about remember his playing days from first reading newspapers as a very lad. He seemed a very nice person too whenever he was interviewed.

RIP Mr McNeill.

I had the true pleasure of being in his company at several Sportsman's dinners.  He was a fantastic speaker and a true gentleman.

I never saw him play but have been told he was a colossus of a player.

My thoughts are with his family.

Short hibs connection - minute's silence/applause on Sunday?

Would suggest the whole country observe this.  He meant a lot to Scottish football, not just the clubs he played for or managed.

Had the pleasure of meeting him once at the St Andrews Sporting Club, not many “stars” I am in awe of but he was one. A genuinely nice man to chat to.

RIP a true legend

Hopefully that’s a given.

Wholeheartedly agree. A man who shone for his club, loved his club but was able to pay respect to all others. Fantastic leader by example

Graeme Russell

Had the pleasure of meeting and having a dram with him at Tynecastle a few years back when we entertained Celtic.

A truly humble and sincere gent who was a great ambassador for his club and country.

R.I.P.  Big man.

Agree with this, a true legend. Remember sitting with the whole family hunched round our wee black and white telly cheering his team on as they won the European Cup.
