The 2013 team was pretty poor. Probably worse than the current bunch tbh.

You could argue the 1999 team was as bad.

I’d argue we weren’t in a cup final in 1999. ?

Ah - but like Norm above, what I'm doing here is comparing the meeting ahead with Lennon's Celtic with the semi-final with Lennon's Celtic.

Would our current side be big favourites against Hibs 2012? Of course it would. The question's whether we can raise it and produce one glorious, inspirational effort in a similar way to the semi-final seven years ago.

Fair enough.

I sure hope so.

Simple question really.I look at the team sheet most weeks and I just think what a poor side.

Yes this is the poorest Hearts team to reach a Cup Final. Easy draw to the final is the only reason we are there.

The 1968 team finished 12th in the 18 team league. While I remember being thrilled at the 6-5 win over Dundee United, losing 6-3 (yes 6-3) to Clyde (that's right, Clyde!) and 2-0 at home to Raith Rovers crushed me - the latter spoiled my 9th birthday. The 76 team was better in my opinion, but only just.

Spot on terrifies me even thinking about the final

You think Rick is 'spot on' in saying that we have a 1% chance in the final?

What shite!!

I’d place us right now as a 12/1 shot.

1976 wins easily. And the 2013 League Cup Final side was much, much worse than this.

It's a bit of a daft question, because Hearts so rarely reach finals when we don't have a good or very good side. And the only time we've ever won anything when we hadn't had a great season beforehand was 2012. We're extremely fortunate to be in a position whereby one huge performance transforms the entire season into a great success. So let's take it.

Far to logical

If I could get 12/1 in a two-horse race, I’d take it right now!

Sadly, such is my faith in the current team, I wouldn’t back them with your money.

I missed the opening goal in the 76 cup final, ? if I remember the game kicked off early and Rangers scored before 3pm, or it might be my age ?

Okay, let me put this to bed. I'm must be the oldest, or ar least among the oldest, Hearts supporter on this site.

This is without a doubt, the WORST Hearts team I can ever remember.

There are no tactics, the players can't play and it's dull and embarrassing to watch.

Craig Levein has to take responsibility, he has to go. I think he's bright enough to understand - hopefully.

About 30% IMO.

You can’t seriously believe that mate.

Did you watch Celtic against Aberdeen in the semi?? They ripped them apart with wave after wave of attacks and attempts at goal. If they do that to us we have little chance.

Yep, you’re right.  ?

1-0 down by 2.55pm that day.

I’ve seen worse.

When we played Rangers at Ibrox last month, we were completely and utterly destroyed an hour and 15 mins before ko.

Humped by Rangers in 98 and 12. Humped again in 19.

Seasoned Watchers realise this is Hearts. As long as we get the key men back these last 5 games equals nothing

98 team quality spoke for itself.

12 team had match winners in it and a manager who had owned the opponents all season long.

I get what you’re saying of course but the build up to this years final isn’t remotely comparable to the ones you’ve mentioned, imo.

You forget 12. It was very similar. Laced with shite through it.

It had Rudi Skacel. This has Steven Naismith. Difference? Skacel rarely missed a game.

Not many went to the 12 semi believing

98 team was class and beat a Rangers team that was way way above any team in the league now.

12 Team had an aged Rudi and Suso with Webster.. I think very comparable to the team now...

Can Levein’s class of 2019 provided week on week

entertainment, no chance!

Can they win the cup - yep in a one off game...

We had a better balanced defence. Players in midfield that were able to influence a game. Wide players we could only now dream of and in  Beattie we had injected something into the team that had been missing.

In no way was that team a great team but I had far more belief going into that semi than I do going into this final.

In fact I seem to recall the narrative on our bus was along the lines of ‘we need to win today to take care of hibs as I don’t trust lennons Celtic to take care of hibs in the final’

Anyway, time will tell and I pray to god you’re correct and I’m miles off.

I don’t think they’re comparable at all but each to their own.

That 2012 team was ****ing miles better than this shower, ridiculous to even suggest it wasn't, in terms of ability and character just no comparison.

And as someone who missed 4 (by count) games all season long, I don’t forget at all.

We had proper width i agree this team lacks.

Beattie had no impact on the final really. Barr and 2 t's were honest.

This team needs Naismith to tie it together.

Shit teams have won cups. This would not be the worst team to win one. It has beaten Celtic

Lord Beni of Gorgie

The 2012 team lost 4 0 at home to Celtic prior to beating them in the semi. It also lost 3 0 at Motherwell for example. It lost to Dundee United often it lost to St Johnstone often.

It's ok now it has the most famous day banked.

But mostly it was shite
