Ha. No I put up a random song by a European artist but I think you’re looking for English songs recorded in another language

Nah - just any songs which include lyrics in a European language - ideally, songs that have been hits in the UK or broadly recognised in the UK.

With Francoise Hardy, it's lovely.

Lady Gaga has a song in the movie "A Star Is Born". Pish movie but couple of decent songs.

You can get an entirely German version of David Bowie's Heroes.

There are a variety of versions recorded including a half and half English and German version and a French version. See the "Heroes EP" which was reproduced in a recent box set.

Seeing Frank Black there reminds me that Pixies did loads of songs in bad Spanglish. My personal favourite is this much-overlooked gem:

And got tickets this morning to see them at the Usher Hall in September. Happy days!

Apologies if I’ve missed it, but it appears after 65 replies, nobody has mentioned this classic

I can't believe no one's mentioned the Rat-ta-tat-ta-tat song.

If we’re going for Serge Gainsbourg / Eurovision here’s Wizo’s version of his 1965 winner

The song that only came third in 1958 was covered by Dean Martin and became much better known

And this 1967 Classic from Vicky Leandros - was on the radio last week

Misplaced childhood, perimeter walk I think. It’s about 5 hrs and 43 minutes in on side 2.

Worth waiting for.

?

I was going to post a few yesterday but was on data so didn't want to play tunes. La Isla De Encarta and Vamos.  I also got tickets for the Usher Hall.  They are still phenomenal live.

Have we had Icelandic yet?

(Nonsense lyrics but with some Icelandic)

Cocteau Twins did this style first but they were Scottish.

Gutted that the Jonsi and Alex gig at the Usher Hall has been cancelled.

And some Portuguese...

Anyone remember this?  Sérgio Mendes song, version by Echobeatz.  Was in the top 10 of the charts.  Released in time for France ‘98 (How’d that work out for ya, Brazil ...?)

I'm in love with this woman and her voice.

Born in Paris, France

She is of Algerian, Egyptian, Indian and Cambodian descent

You need to turn the volume up, also listen to all of it. Takes a little while to get going.

I first heard this one on the first episode of Chris Morris's Blue Jam and I liked it but assumed it was just a piss take written for the programme and then, bizarrely, heard it used in Mad Men just a few weeks later.
