This.  The spotlight will be on Hastings for the rest of series 5 and by the time they realise it wasn’t him he’d have killed himself.

It’s Kate that’s behind it all, I’m sure of it.  All the happy family stuff is a cover up to knock you off the scent.  My far fetched view is currently as follows - the Liverpool scarf on Kate’s kids wall has made me think that H is a reference to Hillsborough, perhaps Kate has such a vendetta on corruption (perhaps lost a family member there) that she’s become corrupt herself trying to fix it.  I don’t think the writers are scared to address real life cases, they had characters in photos with Saville in a previous series.

It was a Nottingham forest scarf.

I'm pretty sure the scarf said Forest, which would fit her accent and the fact Vicky McLure is from Nottingham.

I don’t agree with your theory but, forest were Liverpool’s opponents that fateful day.

But, as tazio said, McClure is from Nottingham so probably just an opportunity to get her team in the show.

Think I'll watch this one, like I have after the first far-fetched, twisting plotline series.

Just wait for the end of the series...then think: "What the ****?"

Overthinking it spoils it, imo.

I am guessing she is a forest fan. There was a forest mug in episode 1 of season 5 and she is from that area.

Stephen Graham is from Merseyside, though...

There's a theory kicking around that Dot is the man in the photo.

Well, not quite, but I'm sure she must know who Hastings is. She wouldn't need a picture to confirm it.

Must be a red herring surely, im not sure mercurio would be that daft to give away a major plotline on social media before the series had even started? Although maybe thats why Hastings is acting so sheepish, because he knows dot is alive and in witness protection?

Not so much bothered about it...if true.

Be a strange departure from the BBC & Mercurio, to do that. Will annoy the shit out of folk who've still to see that series in particular though too, I'd imagine. Even if it is a piss-take.

Like I've said above...I'll just wait & see how it all pans out.

Is undoubtedly the way to go about it.  I tend to get a bit worked up about things, much to my wife's entertainment, if they're not just so.  That's why I couldn't get into The Bodyguard, because some of the stuff in it would just never have happened.  I'm like, "I know it's fiction but it should have a basis in relaity" whereas Mrs H is like, "It's just a TV program ya radge".

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if "H" is revealed to be Julia Montague from the Bodyguard. That's the levels of incredulity that get reached by Mercurio some times.

It's a switch off brain, watch soap-opera drama. That's it.

I joined this in the last series, which was far fetched (especially the lack of reference to a missing arm), but still enjoyed it.

So far this one has been better.  My opinion is Hastings is being set up.  His personal circumstances make him vulnerable.  My money is on Kate Fleming.  Her promotion was because she knows something.  She has also managed to escape the real danger.   We may have a long wait to find this out, though.

Without a doubt. Bear in mind she works for Hargreaves, who is a piece of work and a prime candidate for being 'H'.

And as they said, that's an easy cop out, to finger the dead guy that everyone knows to have been bent.

They're working hard on making us think it's Hastings but if he fails for this property scam, I'll be very disappointed.

it's never that easy to work out the plot

is the undercover cop a good guy or bad guy?

and the female gang member could she be undercover as well?

Speculation that the misspelling o ‘deliberate’ in the text exchange is a possible clue as well.

It was "definately" rather than "deliberate", was it not?

In which case, the finger of suspicion points squarely at this man...
