The Old Tolbooth

Here goes, probably the toughest day of the festival by some distance so small stakes for me today to protect my stash that I've built up over the week.

1.30 Garden of Babylon - I'm taking on the hot favourite here because he's quite simply too short, Garden of Babylon was only 6 lengths behind Sir Erec LTO, and this stiffer track should suit. There was also a reported problem with Sir Erec earlier in the week and he was a doubt to run at all, so if he's not at the top of his game then Babylon will hopefully be picking up the prize.

2.10 Western Ryder and Mohaayed both each way, their form is solid and they weren't that far behind Silver Streak off level weights in the Greatwood Hurdle, tough race though.

2.50 Derringross - his 3 mile Irish form is as good as anything in this race, another very tough race though.

3.30 Thistlecrack each way, he was only one and a half lengths behind Clan Des Obeaux in the King George over 3 miles LTO, and he'll definitely get up that hill at the finish, if he's anywhere near to being back to his best then he skittles these, if he's not up to his best then I really like Presenting Percy, he's had a hell of a build up to this with quirks all over the shop, but still looks very progressive and tough to beat, and should stay the trip if getting round trouble free. The ground is drying out a bit which goes against Native River for me.

4.10 Shantou Flyer - usually one of my favourite races of the meeting, but this one is the most difficult race on the card, small stakes job for me.

4.50 Minds Eye - been taking on classy Irish horses and this race is much easier than he's used to, he's a great price and is my NAP of the day

5.30 Defi Blue and Arcapella Bourgeois - what a race to finish with, a cavalry charge down the park and hope for the best, but Defi Blue has been consistent all year and looks still fairly treated, whilst Arcapella has some really good class going back to when he last ran 2 years ago, and he hails from the famous Willie Mullins yard, who can get them ready after a lay off (look at his 2 yesterday!). He's kept this horse in training and this has kept his handicap mark low as he hasn't taken the chance to ruin it, could this be a tip in itself?

A fascinating day of racing coming up, bring it on!

What was the problem with Sir Erec leading up to this race? I read they were considering not running it? Hope it’s not related in anyway to what happened, felt sick seeing that.

The shoe came off minutes before the race, they re-plated it with the same shoe.  Very much doubt the horse will make it.

Not the shoe bud, earlier in the week they were considering not running it?

Found it...O'Brien said: "Sir Erec had a stone bruise earlier this week, but we are confident that he will recover and be fine for the race.

They never considered not running it. Stone bruise is pretty minor and it's completely unrelated to the leg break.

I thought I read somewhere that they did, obviously not. No idea about horse injuries at all, what’s serious and what’s not. In fact I’ve no idea about horses full stop, that’s why I’m losing all my money here:lol:

Had each way back on Countister and Whiskey Sour there. Both at 14s. Other than that I'm 2 from 2 at Fakenham!

Make that 3/3.

The only impact it might have had was if it happened before they had given the horse all the work they planned to. But in  this case he had done his racing and training so it was just a case of letting the injury heal.

First time ever I've not had a sausage in Chelts.

I have lost a fortune during the festival and I get married in October. To stop the wedding being cancelled I have started a go fund me page on Facebook.
