Maybe Bernie can get a wee job.

Sanitation or something. Would be nice to keep him about.

Indeed. 28 million about to be evicted and go homeless, 30 million reporting they missed meals last month, and the Democrats might offer a janny position to the only major politician in their ranks who has consistently supported the working class. And they're doing nothing in Congress.

100% spot on with the messaging, Pres. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Correct. Biden may not be the best president that the US ever gets but trump has demonstrated that he's definitely among the worst. Change can only be good.

Change to a President who, as Vice President and as senator long before that, helped create the conditions to make a Trump presidency possible.

And therein lies the catch-22, the Hobson's choice. What in the world do we think is going to "change" when we go back to the exact same thing that caused this in the first place.

At least the more progressive parts of the Democratic party will have an "in" now which they didn't have before. Hopefully they'll be able to take advantage to apply subtle pressure on the decision-making process rather than let it deteriorate into in-fighting within the party.

Being honest, I don't see how. Bernie got absolutely nothing from his negotiations with Biden. Biden is still anti-marijuana even, ffs.

I'm just trying to look on the bright side. Do you think that Biden and congress will be able to function as fully as they would like without the support of the progressives? It's not exactly DUP/Conservatives, but unless the Democrats have a landslide in Congress, they'll need the progressive members to help push things through. They should use that to their advantage. Or am I being naïve?

It may just me being the most pessimistic I've ever been. I mean, just in recent memory, with complete control they took Single Payer and turned it into Obamacare, an unmitigated disaster.

But perhaps you're right. I don't see it but I certainly hope you are.

I hope so too. It's better being on the inside. I hope that the progressive elements in the party are organising themselves as best they can so that they can speak with a fairly united voice on what they will and will not accept.

Interesting debate on the last two pages but it's frustrating that liberals do this - picking holes in their own candidates' suitability, seeking perfection, always on the cusp of infighting. Republicans have one aim and one aim only: winning. If Harris gets the Democrat ticket closer to pushing out Trump, then I'm all in, even is she has a bit of a questionable past. **** this "when they go low, we go high" shit. How's that working out? She'll be VP and then she'll probably be president. And it's going to to be great.

Slightly off topic but I watched a video with QAnon supporters on ABC news. They are nuts. I felt infinitely more stupid for that 3 minutes.

That's what I find frustrating too.  Every day Trump is on TV hurling insults and lies at the Democrats, and the only ones who fire back are The Lincoln Project ... who are a bunch of young Republicans.  The Dems are mamby-pamby hand wringers.

Just once I'd like to hear a leading Democrat stand in front of TV cameras and say loud and clear, "Donald Trump is a lying, racist, misogynist arsehole who hasn't got the brains of a walnut. He's made America the laughing stock of the world and it's time to kick his sorry butt out of the White House."

It'll never happen.

Been wondering the same thing since the nutcase was inaugurated.

Even the like of CNN, wtf won't they just come out and tell it as it is about the bampot?

I understand "respect for the office" but this totally self-absorbed, man-child should be called out for what he is, and no messing about.

How anyone with even minimal brain cells still panders to this moron is beyond li'l old me.

If/when he does get the heave, there are going to be multitudes of his sycophantic, self-serving party, telling us there was nothing they could have done.

My arse!

It did happen. Bernie Sanders said pretty much that, verbatim except for the arsehole part, dozens of times at rallies across the country. And we know what the Democratic establishment did to him.

Almost makes you think they absolutely love having Trump around.

It's easy to look good on front of fawning crowd. Let's see Trump big it up in an empty building.

You just can't hit those buzzwords that allow you to say feck all. At least they tried to fill the void.

While neither Biden nor Trump are a great deal younger he is 78 and already had a heart attack and had stents inserted into a coronary artery. He's considered by too many to be just too old and too unhealthy. And a communist.

I have no doubt you're as aware as I am that Americans don't know what socialism is. If anybody says socialist well that's the same as communist and Biden is most certainly about as socialist as it gets in the US.

Here's an example of how ignorant they are regarding what socialism is.

keep-govt-hands-off-my-medicare.jpg

Where they think that money for their medicare comes from I have no idea. And as for stealing money from it for "socialised medicine" I have no words to describe the ignorance. Only this. 🤣

You would think that a President who calls a rival “Pocahontas”, would be called out by people of all sides of the US political divide. It’s way beneath the standards of office that any President of the US should have, and severely shows up the levels of intelligence that he thinks he wants to attract to his campaign, and office.

Can you imagine a senior British politician coming out with a similar comment about a political rival in the U.K.? It was bad enough when our esteemed PM, in one of his previous roles, went on about “pillar boxes” etc., but to refer to a specific individual, in the way Trump has done repeatedly, is on another level.

Boris was filmed muttering Kipling's "The Road to Mandalay" when he was in Mayanmar as foreign secretary and the British ambassador had to tell him to stop.

Global pandemic killing tens of thousands of Americans

Economic crisis on the horizon

Election campaign to deal with

What's Trump banging on about today?

Water pressure.

His shower's not powerful enough so he wants to pass a law raising the minimum water pressure, nationwide.

If there was ever any proof required that Trump is losing his mind more and more each day, ignoring all the other possible contenders, this has got to be in pole position.

Absolutely.  I can understand why the Republicans say nothing because they're all members of the Trump Cult.  But there's no excuse for the Democrats to let this go, yet they do.

Every Democrat should open every speech with the same first sentence, even if they're talking about groceries.  "Donald Trump is a racist, a liar, and an ignoramus who is an embarrassment to the United States of America. Now, let me talk about the price of tomatoes."

It is way beneath the office, you're right. But what his craven behaviour does, is it gives people an out. Instead of people taking a step back and asking "why", they just react to him. But the issues the US faces today are not because of—and did not start because of—Trump.

These issues have been here for decades. The difference is, Trump forces people to acknowledge them by being such a complete bellend. As a result we've made more progress fighting Trump than we have in decades. So to me it's really important not to let people pin it all on him. Especially since you're right—Republican passivity or outright silence on a lot of this shines a very revealing light on who and what that party really is.

But this is also why I'm genuinely concerned that moving someone new into the White House so they can pretend shit is better now and stop caring is exactly what's going to happen, even though it's exactly how we got here today. That's not progress.

The great thing about Trump is that he isn't smart enough to keep thoughts in his head that most people would. Give him just a little prodding and he will actually voice it when rational people wouldn't.

Classic example is that he has recently been quoted as saying that mail in voting will "help the democrats". What that amounts to is if people can vote that doesn't help me. He's admitting out loud that he's in the business of vote suppression.

The Republicans have been doing this on a number of levels for years but they never before admitted it out loud.

Yes. This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about when I said that with Trump out, we are super likely to see a return to "all is well, there's no more Trump in the White House" which couldn't be further from the truth.

I don't see any possible Biden administration being as dysfunctional and outright damaging as the current disaster. An ideal world would be nice but that's rarely if ever an option.

I doubt Jews in Eastern Europe post WW2 would have been over the moon about the Nazis being replaced by the Stalinist's. But still found it immeasurably preferable.

I don't get this insistence on saying "China virus". It sounds retarded and can help him in absolutely no way. And that's the least of the stupidity in this latest incoherent ramble. But he managed to get in one of his favorite words, repeatedly. Tremendous.

I feel he's now showing evidence of being in a progressive cognitive decline. Constantly mispronouncing common non complex words. DocSors  instead of doctors, fatilities instead of fatalities more than once.
