He must have had a very bad night, his normal beautiful orange or blond hair seemed to be grey this afternoon. The stress is getting to him, or mebbe being so young he just wanted to look older.

I noticed that too. Can't get to the shops for his Grecian 2000.

Was the Right to bear arms not to supplement the militia especially in a at the time small country where neighbours were quite distant from each other. Is there not a clause also that it is to protect ones home and person. With these weapons where is the proposed threat going to come from, or more to the point are persons armed in such a way not actually the kind of threat that the Amendment is what law abiding citizens would be protecting themselves from

On an earlier post today written before I had seen this I commented in a similar vein that he if defeated might not go. It takes no brilliance to me this deduction I have seen him on TV in the past make that statement that he would not leave office because of a result he adjudged not proper. Has no one else seen in this man all , not some, all the classic moves of a potential dictator. Openly states that he has ambitions to be President for life, he has stated that particularly at the occasion of the appointment of Xi. Appoints guys like a previously respected Bill Barr who agrees with everything he does, and defines the law to suit, What did the last centuries worst tyrants have in their roles as dictators ,,followers who carried out the masters rules regardless of human rights, laws, just said yes sir and did it. Media control and an avid spokesman who only preached the masters agenda, there is one on TV now, never contradicts ,questions or otherwise deviates from the masters voice. A policy of returning all US military from distant deployments, highly available military resources if any form of civil unrest as a result of  unpopular policies or decisions. Sure I agree I'm an old fart having a trip of fantasy, but if you kiss ass of potential enemies and aggressors such as North Korea ,China,Russia you can afford to have your  well funded and supplied military right at home, to hell with NATO, and any other dependent allies we don't need you but you sure need us so behave.

I'm fully expecting him to refuse to leave.

He'll just claim the vote was rigged and he'll have to be dragged out strapped to a trolley like Hannibal feckin Lecter.

Either that or another civil war with all his wee militia pals shooting up government offices.....

Is anyone really surprised at this display, Charlottesville was Trumps opportunity to tell the people its alright we are with you we just have to be limited in our agreement.. Watch the election results in November, if Trump does not win will he accept defeat and just move over, or could it possibly happen that individuals such as those oppose a change of leadership. He has a stacked Supreme Court, he has a stacked Senate, he is stacking as far as he can all the positions of leadership Secretaries etc with people who agree with him. Who or what is there really to stop him from becoming a takeover President for life. The military they will be fully occupied being prepared to face an angry Chinese who even now he is criticising and blaming for things like the Virus. He is directly being accusatory of the Chinese in his withdrawal of funds from WHO. He is not wrong in the Virus case, China have been at the least dilatory, but there is a time and place, and even an opponent that you have to consider is this the best time, place and person to prove how tough you are.

I've posted elsewhere about this podcast series before but the one on the Second Amendment is a terrific piece of work on the history and evolution of the 2nd Amendment. Well worth a listen.

Another indicator of his extreme narcissism is he hasn't offered one sympathetic word to the families of the approaching 40k dead at his propaganda briefings. All about him.

How a true leader handles an international crisis

Jacinda Ardern

On 21 March, when Boris Johnson was still resisting a lockdown for the UK, and he and US president Donald Trump had been sending all manner of mixed messages about handshakes, big gatherings, science, schools, and much else besides, she did a broadcast to the nation spelling out the strategy for New Zealand. In this rugby-obsessed nation, unsurprisingly, one of the central messages sounded like something from an All Blacks team talk: “We go hard, we go early.”

Let's see how long they last.

4,591 deaths on Thursday alone in the US.  Let's see how many by Monday.

Their line on the comparison graph is flattening.    In the wrong plane.    Exponential growth.

Their media is something to behold. Not sure if they're just trying to keep spirits up or what but it's been full of politicians saying how the curve is flattening and they're over the worst of it for about 3 weeks, meanwhile the numbers have ramped up constantly. They were always going to be the worst hit by miles, just totally unprepared for anything they can't stop by firing guns and bombs at things.

I’ve read in a few places that last month was the first March without a school shooting in 18 years. Now that’s a depressing fact right there. It needs a pandemic to save kid’s lives.

The sad thing about the view of the Americans is that so many of us identify the rabble rousers, as the Americans when in fact there are so many excellent Americans but they just don't get the coverage that the other ones do. It is more so now when the President even if he doesn't encourage those automatic weapons wielding thugs is equally ambivalent about criticising them. Of course he does love that they will vote for him.

i see they are going to run the antibody test on sailors on an aircraft carrier. coincidentally today WHO say (from BBC)

The World Health Organization has just cautioned against placing too much stock in antibody tests - they're the tests to see if someone has already had the virus.

The first problem with antibody tests is there aren’t any that work, but even if they did there are potential issues.

There are no guarantees that if you have antibodies against the coronavirus that you are completely immune.

And even if your antibodies do protect you from becoming sick, then you may be able to harbour the virus in your body and pass it to others.

There will be many challenges before immunity passports, allowing you to resume life as normal if you pass an antibody test, will be practical.

This is the problem with a virus that has only been around for a couple of months – there is still too much we do not understand.

However, the main appeal of antibody testing is to find out how many people have really been infected with the virus.

I travelled across it coast to coast while the war in Iraq was still at it’s peak. What was interesting is as I left California the further in you got the more you saw US flags everywhere then as you approached New York you stopped seeing them again.

The USA is a great country that I've visited more times than I can count.  And the people are fine too.

But I've learned that certain subjects are taboo for discussion by a foreigner like me ... religion, politics, and guns.  The people are very sensitive to any level of criticism on those subjects.

Abortion is another one, but that's sensitive in most countries.

From what I can tell, most of the anger is directed at their fellow citizens.  The country is deeply divided along ideological lines.

To a large extent, Americans don't care about what's going on outside their country, but are ready to go to war with each other over things like school prayer, abortion rights, gay rights, and gun controls, issues that were settled decades ago in most western countries.

I'm probably biased (a pinko socialist Canadian), but most of the anger seems to be among the conservative right.  They believe that their 'freedoms' are under attack.  Which is why they love Trump, who they feel is fighting against the evils of socialism.

The fundamental need of conservatives in the United States is to be oppressed. Probably the least oppressed group in the history of the world, their complex is truly something to behold.

See also someone who self refers (i) and sure '8s hibs for a Scottish example of the same disorder.
