Protests, marches, led by brave persons eased racial discrimination in USA, has also worked for womens rights, anti war protests against Vietnam war indicated the publics disagreement with involvement, LGBT protests made quite a difference and changed public perspective of queers, lezzies to the now acceptable Gay. There are protests that are just that, but one has to be careful not to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Bob Sharp take a bloody bow!

Fair enough.  We'll be offered the chance to become the 51st state... as long as we ban abortions and unban guns.

TBF I'd be thrilled to have Scotland as a state in the union but you probably don't want to be part of it in the state it's currently in.

Part of the United States of America rather than the United States of Europe –

Love the idea, gets my vote.

It's interesting to hear the Obama was just as bad as Trump arguments.  Straight up, i liked Obama, i dislike Trump.  Here's why.

Obama attempted (and in many cases succeeded) in making the USA a more inclusive and tolerant place for many.  You could feel the difference in the country.  Trump on the other hand plays to people who have a view of the world whereby their kind should be elevated above all else.  You can also feel the level of divisiveness and intolerance rise due to Trump's attitude and rhetoric.

Obama (to my knowledge) didn't abandon any principles or ideals that he held in an all out effort to gain and stay in power, he had a genuine belief in trying to make the USA a better place.  Trump only has one principle or ideal and that is Donald Trump and is quite happy to lend his support to any cause that pays enough for it - whether through providing cash to his campaign or in other ways.

Obama was weak on foreign policy in the main and tried to foster relationships through understanding different views of the world , Trump's foreign policy is scattergun at best and insulting at worst.

Obama began a rebuilding program to stimulate the economy for the good of all.  Trumps economic policies have so far seen a decent return with the US economy being healthy but imo opinion, it's coming at a cost that we don;t yet know due to cuts in environmental protections, regulations on the finance industry and more.

Was Obama the greatest president ever? Absolutely not but i'd rather have someone with a general desire to improve the lives of many as opposed to one with a general desire to improve his life and to hell with the rest.

Obama showed up unannounced in Toronto at the recent NBA playoff game between the Toronto Raptors and the Golden State Warriors. He got a standing ovation from the 20,000 crowd, along with loud chants of "MVP, MVP." In the meantime, it was reported that Trump is viewed favourably by only 9% of Canadians, the lowest of any American president ever, by far. I read today that the comparable figure in the UK is 21%.

I'm well aware that what Canadians or the British think of any US president doesn't amount to a hill of beans, but if Trump really want to MAGA, he needs to consider how the country is viewed through the eyes of America's allies.

All “Trump really wants” is what any run of the mill megalomaniac wants, to be cow-towed to and fawned over at any price.

This is now the United Family of Trump as opposed to .......

Alfa, you’re not really that desperate for attention, surely?

I strongly agree with both of those statements. Trump is a profoundly odious expletive deleted, but if you are leader of the oppo with serious ambitions to be PM, you must respect the position regardless of your views on the incumbent. So Comrade Corbyn speaks at a public protest event during POTUS's state visit.

What an utter dickhead.

I see he’s also advocating for a boycott of AT&T because he doesn’t like the CNN coverage.

Now i’m no apologist for massive media companies but this is yet another example of his childish ways. Most politicians choose to either ignore unfavorable coverage or state their case in a grown up manner.

FWIW, I think CNN is a bag of shite.

CNN is almost unwatchable, imo.  Half the time it's commercials, the other half it's the same thing over and over and over, ad nauseum.

Yon Wolf Blitzer needs to retire.

Hey, all the UK-based folks saying it doesn't matter what a US President does in your world?

Enjoy those post-hard-Brexit negotiations when, in order to cut a deal with the US to save the UK economy, the Tories agree to privatize the NHS and open management contracts up to US healthcare management companies.

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/nhs-on-the-table

They'll tell you it's needed to secure British independence from Europe. Enjoy.

Seems to have changed his mind because in an interview with Piers Morgan this morning Trump has now said that the NHS will not be on the table or part of any trade deal, of course that could well change again.

Apparently not, until yesterday anyway, as the PM had to tell him what the NHS stood for when he was asked a question about it at the presser yesterday.

Not surprised by the ignoramus not knowing that. If American companies get anywhere near the NHS there will be Riots.

Just sit on a forum moaning about others trying to change things. NHS and education given through protest and change

I watched Colbert last night, had a good laugh when he showed a garden in England on the route where Trumps plane would come in to land, and a young lad had cut in the grass with a lawn mower a large penis with Trumps name under it. Colbert commented that if Trump looked down and saw the penis it would be the first time in years he could do that and see one. It struck me as funny, and as has been mentioned on a couple of occasions when it come to that type of comedy you just can't beat the Brits.

New Michael Wolff Dump book, he speaks to Steve Bannon and asks him if it's fair to say that Trump's business is a semi-criminal enterprise. Bannon replies: '" I think we can drop the semi". Trump is basically a mob figure.

Easier to do this than the lefty luvvies to do anything about Venezuela and their leader starving hundreds of thousands to death .

probably because as soon as they touched down they would feel the warm love of the socialist governments- ie batons, tear gas, torture and incarceration.

Who would feel the batons, tear gas, torture and incarceration? Who would be wielding them?

Are you saying the Venezuelan govt is deliberately starving people to death and that this government would inflict this sort of violence on visitors?

When you can't argue intelligently, just strawman socialism and Venezuela, a controlled market economy and authoritarian, non-democratic, straight up dictatorship.

It's galling enough when Americans, in their ignorance, do it, but you've no excuse--you're right next door to ****ing Scandinavia ffs.

Nope red tory  boy he is not. Look closer to the  utter lunatic leader  May, she made no appease or comment when Trump first utter the words on including the NHS in future US/UK trade. What was her response, any FUTURE deals will have  to have negotiations.

It’s completely and utterly inappropriate and wrong with someone with such hateful policies like Trump to have a state visit coasting over £40 million fecking  pounds for the cost of the  ceremony and pomp, it  is totally inappropriate., while  schools fecking beg for more money  and people in fecking WORK visit food banks. Donald J. Trump says he turned down meeting with Jeremy Corbyn, and you wonder fecking why.

You really need to take your smug  head  out of your sun dont shine and own up in a manly way that Corbyns refusal to meet , talk, or have anything to do with a big  orange racist, fascist moron is more manly than Trumps policies on Mexico were he sanctioned putting children in cages and separating them from their parents.

Operation To Remove Piers Morgan From Donald Trump’s Arsehole Planned For Later Today;

Doctors in London are holding an emergency meeting this morning to figure out how to remove  Piers Morgan from the arsehole of American president Donald Trump. It follows an exclusive interview for Good Morning Britain between the pair, in which Morgan was so keen to appease the orange genius that within two minutes, only his shoe laces were visible.

Equating the Good Friday Agreement issues around the border in Ireland to the issues he sees at the Mexico/USA border...

Even the BBC - reporting his comments that the border post-Brexit will be no problem at all as if it means there's a solution, rather than it just being the ramblings of a madman - what are they up to?

all the talk of the wall,

I wonder what the immigration policy of this country would be if it shared a 2000 mile border with mexico?

Look at the tizzy everyone got into over European immigration.

The camps in Calais?

Imagine we bordered Mexico ( the Riviera Maya would be nice, but cartels etc and muders/rapes/drugs/gangs not so much)

How long do you think it would take the UK - in terms of  border policy- to abandon a more open policy into one similar to America?

Their border with Canada is not an issue after all.

I reckon that within a year our policy would be not too dissimilarly hostile.
