Trump also suggesting that the Army should be used to build and guard the new encampments for arrested illegals and asylum seekers.

So very normal and not at all worrisome....

Its a terrible thing, but seems more has been saved than first anticipated. Basic structure seems to be sound, and lot of artifacts saved. Frances President promises it wil be rebuilt.

True, but he said he was the bestest president ever and forever.

The fire could well be an act of arson or terror.

However, the political fix was in from the start.

The French government somehow were able to say as the fire raged- ‘that this fire was not deliberate sabotage.’ How is that? - when it will take a great deal of investigation to establish the facts.

In context, hundreds of French churches were vandalised and burned in some way last year.

It also amazes me that the elitists can raise a billion euros in five minutes for rebuilding and renovation. Imagine how that sum of money could be used for those in need.

Is that immigrant caravan still advancing on the US-Mexico border chief?

Still waiting on that one.

Just imagine if the church sold off a fraction of it's many many thousands of treasures, the money from that would certainly help a vast number of those in need.

Brilliant

I was watching hockey, and switched to see what CNN were talking about and that was what they had on. Ublievable, I thought it was some kind of dubbed comedy, but it was real, I found the criticisms of his golf fantastic when it was pointed out the volume of games of their darling. Classic television should be one for history.

Sorry, Donald. I'm on your team for 2020 now! ??

Have to agree with your decision, Barr made it very clear that Trump was a victim of a cruel and nasty hoax and witch hunt. No one was more convinced than Rosenstein if you watch his rapt attention of total agreement with Barrs statements.  Poor Adolf Hitler if he could only have got this type of legal representation he would no doubt have been granted sainthood by now.

Lots of folks live-tweeting their reading of the Mueller report.

Many saying it's basically an impeachment referral.

According to notes kept by Jody Hunt, who served as Sessions’ chief of staff, Trump’s reaction to Mueller’s appointment was as follows:

“The President slumped back in his chair and said, ‘Oh my God. This is terrible. This is the end of my presidency. I’m fecked.’”

:jjyay:Nothing to hide, eh?

In fact, the special counsel lists 11 key issues, which he headlines as:

1) How the Trump campaign reacted to reports that Russia was trying to interfere with the 2016 presidential election on Trump’s behalf, including response to WikiLeaks’ dump of emails

2) How Trump behaved over the investigation into his first national security adviser Michael Flynn

3) Trump’s reaction to the start of the FBI’s investigation into potential links with Russia, including when he asked the then FBI director James Comey to “lift the cloud” over his presidency

4) The firing of Comey

5) Trump’s efforts to have Mueller himself fired – a particularly ironic episode given the report’s author

6) The president’s on-going attempts to curtail Mueller’s investigation and limit its remit

7) Trump’s efforts to prevent details becoming public of the notorious Trump Tower meeting in June 2016 between his son Don Jr, son-in-law Jared Kusher and Paul Manafort with a group of Russians peddling dirt on Hillary Clinton

8] The president’s bid to force Jeff Sessions, the then attorney general, to reverse his decision to recuse himself from the Russia inquiry and take back the reins of the investigation

9) A new detail this: How Trump not only ordered then White House counsel Don McGahn to fire Mueller in June 2017, he then went on to order McGahn publicly to deny that he had told him to do so. (McGahn refused to do either.)

10) Trump’s behavior towards Flynn after the latter began cooperating with investigators, including asking Flynn to give him a “heads up” if he knew “information that implicates the President”.

11) The president’s conduct towards his longtime lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen, particularly after Cohen “flipped” and began cooperating with Mueller.

Congress may wish to pursue some of these as crimes.

This aint over yet by a long shot.

I am not sure he has weaseled his way out just yet. Barr in his efforts has just brought a new light on the whole Trump, Russian thing. The Southern District of New York still has charges pending of conspiracy with him and his former fixer who has sold him out. Congress are after his tax returns, and there are other investigations ongoing. It is still too early to say he is free and clear. He may survive his Presidency as long as Barr particularly is the AG, but even if he does he loses his immunity from prosecution when he is no longer a sitting President.  There is still a good chance as a result of this Mueller report that Impeachment becomes more of a possibility, someone once said something about the discomfort of the head that wears the crown, Trump must feel right now that he is wearing a size four crown on his size sixteen tumshie heid.

Bob, I couldn't personally give a shit what he does outside his Presidency & if he gets indicted.

What he does now, is the focus. As it affects the entire world, in one way or another. Via policy or another means.

He's squeaked out of this one. Personally, I've given up faith in their system now too. Just re-elect him like sheep and get on with it for another four years.

Would rather see his stupid children be indicted. But...if they can't even make it stick on Junior...

Rather odd way to look at it IMO. Mueller's opinion pretty clearly states that he sees the specifics of the office of the Presidency as preventing a recommendation of prosecution, and that the remedy for such action lies with Congress.

That remedy is, in a word, impeachment.

If he weren't the President, he'd be getting indicted right now for obstruction of justice.

Now he may still skate -- removal from office requires every Democratic and 20 Republican Senators, not to mention convincing House leadership that it's worth the trouble to impeach in the first place. But this is still very much in the balance.

I have watched quite a lot of coverage this morning due to a rainy cool Okanagan day. Of course I watch MSM and of course the reports are all of doom and gloom for Trump. I watched the local news and they also reported their views on it. The interesting portion was when they had a guest on, a former Prosecutor who participated in the Watergate Trial. He gave his opinions and is the only one who has said that there is a slim possibility in the future due to the even stronger scrutiny on Trump and his behaviour throughout this enquiry that his greatest fear is the revelation of actual crimes he seems very afraid will be exposed as a result, and a resignation in the future may not be totally impossible. No suggestion that this is even considered at this time, but could happen at some juncture.

Surely Barr has to go.

Then the AG being a political appointment shows serious flaws in the US Department of Justice system.

In normal times the Senate looks upon such appointments with a critical eye.

Those norms started to erode in 2000.

They need to keep digging on this pos Trump. I don't have any doubt is he guilty of collusion and obstruction, and probably a whole lot more.

It wouldn't surprise me if they had someone on his team, undercover. Just let him think he's all clear and he'll surely enough, expose himself. They always do.

I think he'll dodge the bullet, again.  There are enough Republican lackeys in high places to derail anything that will make him look bad prior to the 2020 election.

Mueller outlined evidence of repeated Trump attempts to shut down or limit the investigation.

He concluded that Trump met the three-part test for an obstruction offence when he made a serious effort to get Mueller fired, told the then-White House counsel to lie that this never happened, tried to get the then-attorney general to sharply narrow the scope of the investigation, tried to get the then-FBI director to stop investigating his former national security adviser, and tried to influence the testimony of former aides.

“The president’s efforts to influence the investigation were mostly unsuccessful,” Mueller wrote, “but that is largely because the persons who surrounded the president declined to carry out orders or accede to his requests.”

Mueller rejected Trump’s lawyers’ claims that a president cannot possibly commit obstruction.

He suggested that he did not make a direct accusation, in part, because of a long-standing Department of Justice position that a sitting president cannot be indicted.

“If we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the president clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state. Based on the facts and the applicable legal standards, however, we are unable to reach that judgment,” Mueller wrote.
