I wonder how the national emergency on the Mexico border is going?

Have the hordes of murderers, rapists, human traffickers, and drug dealers started pouring over the border yet?

the only national emergency is having a rambling criminal half-wit with nuke codes.

Probably a one-off poll. The average is currently at 42%. Still scary though.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/

Yes, 46% is probably a blip.

But he's never been below 36% in his Presidency, which means that more than a third of Americans polled are happy with a misogynist, racist, pathological liar running their country.  As long as he calls himself a Republican, apparently.

I would imagine the 36% is about as low as it will ever go. That's about the percentage of die-hard Republicans that will keep voting regardless of what he actually does. Which in and of itself is pretty scary.

Americans need more border points open to go to Mexico so they can afford drugs too expensive back home.

And not the illegal ones either.

47 months in jail for Manafort.

Federal sentencing guidelines say 19-24 years for his crimes.

Manfort's sentencing hasn't finished yet so he isn't out of the woods yet. He'll be up in front of a different judge in the next few days.

Meanwhile back at the ranch the Democrts who are being given by Trump and his cronies a 2020 win, are fighting amongst themselves about racism, anti semitism, and reducing their chances of winning. The whole political situation in the States is becoming so farcical it would be amusing if it was not for the potential of disaster for the world as a whole.

That's pretty scary because what happens politically in the USA can have a huge effect on the rest of the world.

Trump should be easy to beat but the focus on the IMO long shot of impeachment or criminal charges is both distracting from the task of coalescing around a credible opponent with wide appeal and at the same time enhancing the large hard core of Trump support's belief that he is a victim.

The stumbling over Rep. Omar's comments has been maddening indeed. The first couple of comments she was called on the carpet for were over the line and she issued a good apology for them. The most recent one has been blown ridiculously out of proportion and at this point basically it's Republicans posturing to take on a black Muslim woman who wears the hijab plus the idiot "centrist" wing of the Democrats trying to make sure they "harrumph" loud enough.

AIPAC is a very powerful and savvy lobbying organization and the current government of Israel is awful. The heightened anti-Semitism of the current era makes this a touchy subject but at some point the fever has to break a bit.

Meanwhile today HR1 passed on a 100% party line vote. It's a very good election reform bill that will die immediately upon hitting the Senate, but it's at least a good statement of intent on very real issues.

The 19-24 years was demanded by the prosecution. Don't think it was a guideline.

19-24 years was the exact sentence recommended by the federal sentencing guidelines. More info (it's a thread, so click):

Watched Trump this morning, he went on about Cohen being a liar telling lies as if it was the most terrible thing ever, does he not realise these descriptions of Cohen are actually what I and millions of others think of him. He is totally mental, and even worse when Kim soon fires his missile, Trump is the man with his finger on the U.S. button. He has promised serious ramifications if this was to happen, probably his promised fire and fury like the world has never seen.

Another loyal servant General John Kelly now criticising him publicly, what happened to hiring the best, his turnover has caused concern, there will soon be a drafting law where college graduates have to take a job in the White House. Bone spurs will not be cause for exemption.

I see that President Buffoon has  jumped into the 737-MAX tragedy and is suggesting that modern planes are too complicated.  All the time while he's flying around in one of the most technically complicated planes ever built.

Someone needs to tell the fool (not that he'd listen) that technology improves flight safety, and that pilot error is, and always has been, the most common cause of plane crashes.

No more than two years ago he tweeted that pilots make too many mistakes and we need more advanced technology in planes. Not sure I can find it at the moment but it's been making the rounds...

Not only has Manafort been given another 43 months in jail (state law which Donny can't pardon), but he's also been formally charged with another 16 counts of fraud in New York.

He'll be tried for these crimes at a later date.

Well this is morbidly entertaining.

The man who oversaw development and production of the 737 MAX at Boeing isn't at Boeing anymore.

He's the acting Secretary of Defense in the Trump administration.

I'd still give the veto override about a 10% chance of happening. Senators can be funny about the Senate.

Mind you likely still won't happen -- more immediately relevant it gives the courts a clear signal that he's allocating funds in defiance of Congress.

I believe its the S.C.O.NY that has ruled that Trump must give a deposition in a case where he is being sued for Defamation. If so he would be required to give oral evidence under Oath. There are also it is suggested that even as President he must give the required deposition. It was not explained what remedial action could be taken but it could be at the least embarassing,if that was possible. Just as in life its not the obvious or expected that gets you, its the one that comes from nowhere and gets you right between the lamps.

There are 53 GOP senators, and only 12 (I think) voted for the bill to protect the Senate's Constitutional responsibilities.  Don't pin your hopes on that parcel o' rogues doing the right thing.

I recall when Trump first got elected, many of us were saying we shouldn't worry about daftie Trump as there are checks and balances in the US government that will keep him under control.  Well, the Senate is one of those checks and balances, and they seem reluctant to be anything other than complicit.

12 is a hell of a lot more than have broken with him before on anything of substance. Even though he eventually waffled and voted against the resolution, the fact that NC Sen Thom Tillis, a partisan tool and Trump lickspittle if there ever was one, felt the need to write an op-ed on why he was going to vote for it says a lot about how Republicans even in states Trump carried are starting to get very nervous.

Nutter is now demanding no Mueller report in face of the 420-0 House vote to publish the full report. That must have rattled him, plus knowing there are 12 Rep senators prepared to defy him and his base. Donnie is lashing out wildly, calling on biker gangs and military to rise up for him.

Not really when you can call in the army, law enforcement, and Bikers for Trump, to enforce your ideology and policies. Just ask his male love interest Kim.

The ******* who killed those 49 people in NZ views Trump as a "symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose".

Put him in the same category as the guy who sent 16 explosive packages to leading Democrats who have spoken out against Trump.

There's an interesting Twitter war going on between Trump and his counselor's husband.

Kellyanne Conway is Trumps' staunchest supporter, yet her husband George is a major critic of Trump.  He has recently called Trump's mental health into question, and Trump responded on Twitter with the comment "Total loser."

I wonder what Kellyanne and George talk about over dinner?

The FBI have just released a number of the documents, tapes, and other things seized under warrant from the residence of Cohen. As usual a lot has been blotted out, but the reports seem to indicate it will not be good for the Donald.

Watched quite a bit yesterday on his tweets again criticising the now dead John McCain. McCains daughter lambasted Trump pretty good, and one commentator sid its a bit overboard criticising a man who served his country, suffered torture and refused early release from prison so that others could go before. Trump also commented that McCain was bottom of his class at the Naval Academy, which was as usual a lie, McCain himself admitted to being a poor student but was only fifth bottom. It was pointed out that it was rich for a man who received numerous exemptions from service and could not go because of bone spurs would criticise a hero. It was also pointed out that Trump has put a hold on any release of his academic records.

Trump has claimed that he doesn't know Conway. How does the Washington Post have a letter from Trump to Conway thanking him for his help in a condo dispute?
