It isn't but there are socialists in it.

And there are fascists who claim to be Republicans

The Dems are, by the above, very far left. The Republicans aren't great either but the Dems are very far to the left - regulatory and in terms of tax.

Actually I hadn’t seen this post. Utter bollocks. They are about the same as the Conversative Party in the UK on a social AND economic political scale.

That's nonsense. I am a member of the Conservative Party and our policies do not align at all - and most in the party, except wets, do not align themselves with recent Democrats at all on economic issues. Perhaps pandemic aside.

Well done for coming out

Imagine supporting a party led by a buffoon, adulterer and liar

You could have been a Republican too with the same standards of leadership

Crazy that in the event of a 269-269 stalemate, that it doesn’t go to the popular vote.

I thought our electoral system was bad...

Like the guy who was asked to leave the counting room when there was at least an hour left of counting, or the wifey who went to vote and was told that someone had already voted using her name.  But team Trump would let any questions to be asked.

Well that's me convinced.................................................that team Trump are lying barstewards.

:D Took nae questions either.

This is exactly the type of poinonous attitude that resulted in the American election being so close.

Grow up.

I can see this isn’t going to go anywhere so I’ll leave it but I can assure you the Democrats are no where near Labour in the UK and are much closer to the Conservatives.

Fair argument on surface anyway but if it did go to popular vote it would then likely undermine the rationale for having the electoral college.

Sure - I agree in part. It depends what we are talking about. American politics is very different from ours or European.

Anyway, let's see what happens tonight/tomorrow!

Don't think I could vote Dem or Rep if I was from any of the US states. Tory or BNP, no thanks. I did like Obama, he was the real deal.

I'm still worried Trump is going to sneak this.I think Arizona will go to Trump and I think he will just sneak Georgia so then it's just down to hoping Biden can overhaul in Pennsylvania.

What IS the rationale for having the Electoral College?

Seems like an unnecessary load of shite to me.

Very probably historic. Imagine all the electors standing in their breeches and waistcoats in Washington - no-one's going to trust how many electoral votes they say are behind their Presidential vote, and probably no-one could back up the figures anyway. The idea was that the States were just asked "We don't care how you do it, just send us electors". The Americans don't easily let hold of their traditions, no matter how strange they may be.

Biden should play Trump at his own game and demand recounts in states he may lose narrowly ie possibly Georgia and N. Carolina. Although I suspect Joe has infinitely more class than the orange buffoon and will let it play out like a gent.

he will hold on just to Georgia, but Penn is now 115k with about 600k votes to count

nevada is waiting pretty much Clark County where LV is and thats a blue city

Arizona is waiting on the 3 counties where Pheoix, Flagstaff and Tuscon, all will vote Biden

I think now Biden will get the 270 and then Penn to cement the deal

They keep going on about the majority of votes are going to come from a Trump county in Arizona

back in the cowboy days it took too long to comunicate accross the country so thay came up with colleges who would vote and then it would tally up easier, rather than a first past the post nation wide

There is only Yuma that matters to trump fans now, you could lose Scotland in all of these counties and most have the population of Falkirk

One of the pleasing aspects of this US election was to see that Nevada had a "None of these candidates" choice on their Presidential poll. Should be on all polls, imo. :)

590k still due. Running between 65-75% in Biden's favour. Trump's up 115k so far.

The math is not in Trump's favour.

I disagree. I strongly dislike the Republicans but a lengthy period of dominace by a single party is most unhealthy. It means they can get away with sloppiness and incompetence, knowing they will always be re-elected. A strong opposition to keep the government of the day on its toes is essential in any democracy anywhere.

It obviously isn't worth holding onto but, it benefits the Republicans and they aren't budging.

Totally agree. I think devolved parliaments were an awful idea.

Did you see what Wales had done to supermarkets during their 2 week lockdown? Insanity.

The Americans on the thread will be better informed than me on this matter, but I read quite recently that BOTH major parties have swung to the right in the last couple of decades, to the extent that the Democrats are now roughly where the Republicans were in the time of Ronald Reagan. @Kalamazoo Jambo @Justin Z

Trump is going batshit on Twitter again. Several tweets that have been hidden by Twitter as non factual or contentious.
I’d imagine a lot of people in the Republican Party are praying for him to stop and try to restore some dignity to them.
