The main lesson is the longstanding one of reaching out to all communities. Feet on the ground everywhere. Something the Trump campaign has done better probably helping explain a better than expected result.

Yes, there's definitely a lot to that too.

Yesterday I'd seen the figures for the second-most Hispanic county in the US, in Texas, and was sharing them, how Obama won that county by 42 points in 2012 all the way down to a 5 point Biden loss in 2020.

Today are the figures on the most Hispanic county in the US, Starr County, also in Texas, and they are also ugly:

In 2012, Obama won by 73 points.

In 2016, Clinton won by 60 points.

In 2020, Biden won by just 5 points.

The per capita income in that county is slightly less than £5,500 currency converted.

Even the Trump campaign figured out that the Democrats don't represent common folk, and that they can exploit it. Not in any real way, but in a real enough way to swing a huge, long-red state that was looking blue back to Trump. Will the Democrats? No, because that would go directly against the reason for their existence, to support the corporatist establishment.

Interesting thoughts and worth taking on board. I don’t agree though. I think Trump would have beaten him.

And that's fair enough. Can only make my hypothetical case at this point

You're already seeing it happening with Republicans' responses to his "stop counting" rants. The likes of McConnell wouldn't have spoke out against his conspiracy rants like that a couple of days ago. His getting re-elected and seeing the writing on the wall for Trump means he, and others, are setting themselves up for the post-Trump era.

Time for a sweeping generalisation...

Other than the Cubans and Venezuelans who believe that Biden is ‘Socialist’, are other Hispanic voters attracted to the more socially-conservative policies of the GOP?

Am I right in reading you're back in chilly Jockland, JZ?

You should just forget about America, mate. All this fretting and rustling of your own jimmies isn't healthy. You'll do yourself a mischief. Just accept that your former homeland is dead to you now and move on.

Let go of your anger. Adopt the ostrich approach. Engage in a hearty dose of cognitive dissonance. Drink whisky and strong domestc ale. The world will still be a shitshow but you'll feel a whole lot better

Edit. And pump bursds with big chebs and sloppy ladyboxes.

Given that last piece of advice to a fellow Jambo, I really like the Governor now

Another Rudy rant about Democrat hack judges would be very entertaining.

 I'd missed this edit till @Captain Slog pointed it out. Already on the cards, mate. Once this mandatory quarantine is over, it's on.

You all lucky enough to be born Scottish already know the magic of the accent . . . but it does work in reverse, too. 😏

Hmmm....not sure. I've got that niggly, nervy feeling about these two and Arizona/Nevada which are also tight(ening).

I know Biden is underwhelming, but at least if he gets the presidency he'll put and end to Trump's 'family dynasty' succession plans. And (hopefully) pave the way for prosecutions/indictments for all of his high crimes and misdemeanours. There'll be a conga line of people with baseball bats queueing up to clobber him, metaphorically of course.

I grumpily told @Maple Leaf I think, a few weeks back, that I was 100% confident that neither Trump nor any of his family members would face any criminal sanctions for anything, certainly not from the government that succeeds them.

It’s a real mixed bag, certainly not a monolithic group. There are a lot of social conservatives and some evangelical Christians in the mix, but Biden should still have done better.

I think he's referring to Trump voters when he says that. Not the Trump crime clan.

Maybe. But treating Dem leaders' words with cynicism and skepticism have never done me wrong.

I think it may be days. Trump will demand a recount anywhere he can anywhere Biden wins.

Respecting the Presidency. He might also get advised that if he concedes he’ll be left alone.

Which I'd hope not, because just like with Nixon, that would mean yet another signal that the presidency is a free pass for pure criminal enterprise as long as you leave in a way the powers-that-be deem acceptable.

You may well be right, but I reckon there'll still be a queue including (but not limited to) the IRS and his creditors/lenders. There's some big, personally guaranteed, loans about to be called in (Deutsche Bank, among others). I also think his 'base' will quickly evaporate; rats off a sinking ship etc.

Oh man, I wish. But no, everything is a grand liberal conspiracy to these folks. Everything. They were even chanting "**** Fox News" at their "storm government buildings with no repercussions from police because many police are white supremacists too" riots last night.

Are they re-counting in Arizona or something?

That was declared for JB but the numbers have changed since yesterday. JB's lead has been cut by a point withn 85% of votes in.

Not re-counting, just getting the last of the early voting ballots counted.

So can trump still win this?

Yes but he needs Nevada, Georgia, N. Carolina and Pennsylvania.

Arizona is still going too.

Definitely, but statistically it's looking pretty unlikely at this point.

Many commentators now thinking Biden is going to flip Pennsylvania. If that happens, game set and match. They're down to the mail votes which are heavily Democrat.

Aye, but the thing about Hillary's deplorables is they've got short attention spans. They'll soon move on to their next hero-in-waiting once Trump is (hopefully) defenestrated.

Could be, but even so, you've hit on the fundamental point. This is a rot that began long before Trump exploited it and thanks in no small part to Democratic ineptitude, it has plenty of steam still to go.

This time yesterday there was 600k in the red, but now its something like 165k after the postal votes came in, and still around a 1m to count, and most of that is Pittsburgh and Philly, its goint to flip blue by tonight, and with postal voted still acceptable by COP tomorrow, so long as they were posted before the polls closed.  Its going to be tight. The postal ballot is nearly blue.  and to put that in perspective Biden needed 68% of the postal vote, the clever money predicted 60%

If talking Georgia, Fulton County (Atlanta)

And to bang a drum again, sorry...Wayne County & surrounds are all that's left.

😎

There is about 20k votes left to count in Clayton County, and Atlanta, Athen and Augusta are all Blue, its going to flip by a small amount but its going to flip, which could negate Arazona and/or Nevada if there is a flip red, 16 v 17

People saying Arizona is narrowing but, according to the page I am following, >99% of votes have been counted so not enough left to change the result

My fag packet maths thinks there is 66k votes to count and Biden needs 72% of that, and as the postal vote is blue, its going to be very tight

Might go back to bed.

In other Georgia news...Ossoff is 0.1% away from Perdue, to forcing another run-off there. With 95% in.

Runoff will be unlikely to change the ultimate result unfortunately since the Libertarian candidate was siphoning votes away from Perdue.

But you never know with those, they can and have turned round.
