Pelosi has now said that Donald Trump has commited 'a seditious act' and calls for his immediate removal through the 25th amendment.

Yeah, I still don’t see the 25th amendment being implemented but I do now see impeachment as a strong likelihood. This is a much simpler case than the previous impeachment so could move fast.

The second comment was him quoting his grand-daughter.

Not to say that he doesn't fully agree with her.

Trump has finished himself better than any of us could have hoped. Bill Barr, John Bolton and others all condemning him with no holds barred,  Trump now backing down saying the transition on Jan 20th will be handled smoothly.  He will never be accepted again in the Washington clique, , he will be basically an outcast. What will be interesting to see how much of his base will stay with him, if he has them he could still be a danger to society. It will also be interesting to see how Putin reacts, if he has all the National Security information he requires he may dump him, if not he may use by squeezing him with threats of exposure about things he has told Putin.

Just heard General Kelly, his ex Chief of staff, say Trump should be removed via 25th. Described him as a very flawed character and he only stayed so long (18 months) to protect the country.

Yes, you've summed up the event (and Trump's role in it's encouragement) well.      He's a compulsive liar and totally self-obsessed - his niece believes he is still trying to win approval from his dead father and this accounts for much of his random & extreme behaviour.  A few years down the line, he may even try to claim credit for some of Biden's early successes because of his brilliant management of everything, and for allowing Biden access to the White House despite him having won "by a lot".

His press secretary has just read out a statement from Trump claiming that the rioters were the opposite of what he stands for.

His deflection and re-writing of recent history has started.

Dunno, do Iraqi prisons allow internet access for prisoners on death row?

I saw a similar call from @FBI asking for any photos, videos or descriptions that might lead to the successful arrest and prosecution of those behind the insurrection.

More than a few responses saying, "he's a little over 6 foot, obese, orange complexion and some kind of dead animal on his head." 🤣

So let me get off my police high horse for a wee bit. Just watched the news again listened to all the experts, they can Impeach  they can't impeach. They can remove him they can't remove him. Let me give you some of my beliefs for the future.  He will see his Presidency out, will be calm and plausibly receptive. Not long after  his departure from the White House his wife will separate from him citing irreconcilable differences.    His sons and daughter will make legal advances to have him removed from his businesses citing mental problems detrimental to the functioning in a responsible manner to the challenges of the mega million activities.  His loss of his Presidency, family and businesses will make him more angry and mentally disturbed and he will go to the only people who he thinks truly love and respect him the very people by their actions who yesterday put him in the situation he will be in. As this will appease his mentally disturbed ego he will allow them to use his name and self believed power to assist and lead them in their similarly disturbed exercises and ambitions. Life will not end well for Donald Trump.

Of course it takes no genius to prophesy his serious criminal charges that particularly the State of New York will enforce.

He released it on twitter.

Can you run for senate, HoR or Governor after presidency? Pretty sure this loony could find a state that would put him in power of some kind.

I loved the incredulous tone on Elizabeth from Knoxville as she explained she was storming the Capitol, it's a revolution.  As if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Like we're the mad ones for not getting it. They're seriously broken in the head, it's a long way back from this for America.

This sorry Trump presidential term has really shown the U.S.A as a world joke - a country for decades who have tried to change the regimes of other countries in the name of democracy.

It must be seriously embarassing when the likes of Russia and China can poke ridicule at your democracy.

Trump seems to finally be calling an end to it all, although it is just an attempt to make sure he holds onto power for his last few days. What comes after that is anyone's guess.

His supporters aren't going away, but he might be in one sense or another.

All the cabinet members who are resigning are cowards.

They'd rather use the terrorist attack (let's call it what it was) as an excuse to pretend they're being moral.

When in fact the moral thing to do would be to stay in the cabinet and 25th his ass.

They're slinking off and letting him replace them with die-hard fascist loyalists who will never 25th him.

This is true. They need to make an example of Trump or it will set a precedent and leave the door open for another arsehole to throw a grenade into sensible democracy....or even worse, trump to run in another 4 years!

That’s why anything that can stop him running for any sort of office must be tried.

This is meaningless. Every word of it is deceitful, everybody knows it, and the only reason he's doing it at all is that someone smarter than he is, which is pretty much anybody, has told him Donnie you're in even deeper shit now. They're going to be coming for you even harder than they were before.

The whole Trump fiasco from day one of his tenure, (alternative facts) to this moment has been tragic. But right at the end he has dug himself a deeper hole than any opponent ever could have. That's a silver lining of sorts.

They need to impeach him, again. There isn't enough time to get him out of office before he will be out anyway but a successful impeachment would bar him from ever running for office again.

If the Republican's don't back it again then they have demonstrated that they're an extremist party not fit to ever govern a democratic nation again.

In my view if they had done the honest thing during the last impeachment they could very well have won this election plus maintained control of the Senate. They too have dug their own grave just as Trump has.

In the coming months and years ever more will come to light about the corruption and insanity of Trump. I'm confident what we currently know while voluminous in itself is the mere tip of the iceberg. And the party who enabled this madness will be stained for a generation to come.

Gustaf Kilander at the Independent rounded up a list of six Republican state lawmakers who posted to social media indicating that they were present or took part in the invasion of the building. They were:

The West Virginia delegate Derrick Evans, who the New York Times reported had posted a video of himself entering the building before deleting the post.
The Virginia state senator Amanda Chase, who wrote on Facebook, “These were not rioters and looters; these were Patriots who love their country and do not want to see our great republic turn into a socialist country. I was there with the people; I know. Don’t believe the fake media narrative,” according to the Henrico Citizen.
The Missouri state representative Justin Hill, who marched to the Capitol but did not enter, according to the St Louis Post-Dispatch. Hill missed his own swearing-in ceremony to be there.
The Pennsylvania state senator Doug Mastriano organised a bus of people to attend the protests but, according to a video he released, did not attend himself, according to the Hill.
The Michigan state representative Matt Maddock, according to the Hill.
The Tennessee state lawmaker Terri Lynn Weaver, who told the Tennessean that she was “in the thick of it” and tweeted a picture from the attack

Good post !!      I loved a brief interview by the BBC guy on the spot yesterday with a bearded Trumpet who was still waving his flag along with a few dozen other nutjobs near  Capitol Hill.  Paraphrased summary  -

BBC guy - You''ve come down here today after yesterday's ugly scenes. Why ?

Trumpet - Because these people in that building no longer care about us.  They don't represent us.  And they're all millionaires, making huge amounts of money for sitting there ruining our country".

The irony and lack of awareness from the guy was astonishing - but probably not surprising.

The entire fiasco is drenched in irony. Both twitter and facebook decided this was an individual not fit to be in charge of a social media account. But is still left in charge of nuclear weapons.

I'd also strongly suggest that the authorities wait until after Trump is removed from office to arrest the ringleaders.

If you apprehend them now, he'll just pardon them.
