Sure bud, all valid points.

But at the same time, so much of people's take on situations like Trump depends on what 'brand' of Americanism they subscribe to and which media they choose to consume and believe.

It's all very well saying that people have a choice, people should educate themselves etc, but at the end of the day, a huge amount of our identity is shaped by our biases and how we not only see ourselves but also what we see ourselves as NOT being (ie the other side).

Paying attention, as you put it, would have meant different things to different people. It's funny though, because the same scenario repeats itself no matter the situation. My mother in law is incredulous about how 'westerners' can be walking around without masks, not having more lockdowns despite high case rates etc, because that's what she hears on the Chinese news every night. She chooses to consume that despite her daughter describing things very differently 'on the ground'. She even refuses to come here to visit because she's terrified of catching covid, thus denying herself access to her own grandchildren. It's the same as someone watching Fox every night, believing what they hear, then ignoring their own more Liberal kids who are telling them that no, Biden isn't a socialist. Folk only listen to what they want to hear, eventually, and it takes a sort of satori moment to move past that. Most people will never experience that, however.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure you're actually a die hard Trumpist who's just using this all as an excuse to get a ST at Tynie... 😜

I am a Fox watcher pretty much nightly. I watch particularly Hannity. I have said on JKB numerous times I dislike very much the word hate. I watch and listen particularly to Hannity and unfortunately that would be the only word I could use to describe his nightly diatribes agains Biden and the Democrats. I am basically at heart a person of conservative leanings. Despite any preference of party, I can still see in the other parties evidence of a good man, possibly not perfect but well intended. This is how I see Biden, but listen to Hannity criticise insult and deplore the man incessantly. He to my watching has never referred to President Biden, still refers to President Trump. He starts every night with criticism of a Biden action, he mentions frequently the people with U.S. citizenship or green cards who remain in Afghanistan, I recall watching the news when planes were leaving and it was commented that many of these pre described persons were voluntarily opting to stay in Afghanistan. I am all for freedom of the press, and ability in a free society to state ones political views and opinions, however I am very much against blatant false anti democratic principles where the right of free speech is blatantly abused if not damaging propaganda.

Trump saying he wont go back to twitter even with Elon Musk in charge. Maybe Trump is intimidated by Musk, a real multi billionaire not a reality TV version. He can buy and sell Trump hundreds of times over and still be stinking rich.

Jeff Bezos bought the Washington Post for around $250 million and I think it actually makes money. Musk can toss around what was it $43 billion?

Over 172 times what Bezos payed for the Post on a toy that has never made any money and if it never does he wont give the proverbial flying. That stinking rich. Trump probably hates him.

I am quite aware of that thank you. My point was Hannitys practise of rarely if ever referring to President Biden, as President the only times I hear him use the term President in reference to President Biden is when he is claiming he is the worst President in the history of the Country. I am sure if you are as regular a Fox viewer as I you will advise me of the regular times I can catch him say President Biden or some other reference to him as President other than in a manner of insult. Having heard him constantly refer to Trump as Mr President and President Trump which is frequent as he uses the former President frequently to point out Bidens failings.

As a gentleman I appreciate your effort to educate me, but would be most satisfied if you kept your unwanted advice to  yourself. I would with all respect  suggest our relationship has been very Hannity ,Bidenish.

That's correct.  But I think that the point @Sharpie was making is that the incumbent is properly referred to as Mr. President as well, but not in the case of Biden and Fox News.

I see the Biden administration has announced the creation of a "Disinformation Governance Board" or to be more accurate a Ministry of Truth but of course only if it's the Dems version of the truth. What George Orwell would make of this is anyones guess but I doubt he'd be in favour of it.

I don't think it remotely bothers anybody here, the title itself is irrelevant to the point. That point being the title is being used by a faux news source to encourage not only mass disrespect for a sitting President but is intended to actually delegitimise him too.

That's what bothers them.

The rep from the part of North Carolina where I grew up (and Trump fan, Jan 6 podium speaker, Hitler fanboy, military service liar, etc.) Madison Cawthorn has yet again been caught carrying a loaded gun in an airport.

For some of the worst of the current GOP, you can tell they're just utterly cynical dinkies using the moment to get power and fame, but you wonder if Cawthorn is really unstable. Like even for the biggest of the murder toy fetishists, they know better than to carry a loaded one at an airport.

Just to add for people not up on Ohio politics, one of Vance’s main rivals in the Republican primary is Josh Mandel. Both are awful. Vance just got some important people to whisper in Trump’s ear and sucked up just that bit more.

I'm not a Tim Ryan fan but if the GOP side is messy enough he might pull off the upset. Of the primary candidates I'd prefer Morgan Harper but she hasn't run a campaign before.

To be honest, I haven’t even paid attention to the Democrats in this race as I don’t see much chance there, but hope I’m wrong.

Ohio is weird. Sherrod Brown is one of the more progressive members of the Senate (and if Biden decides not to run again quite possibly a 2024 Presidential candidate) and he won comfortably in 2018. It's down to turnout and all that and the usual trend is that the party in power has a bad year in the midterms, but who knows this year.

Tim Ryan was part of the ridiculously crowded 2020 Presidential field, one of those who had no good reason to be there. He's a "centrist," slightly more interesting than your usual type and more of a loyal Democrat than, say, Joe Manchin. You'd never count on him to pass something dramatic but he'd hold down the majority and likely could have been whipped to vote for things like BBB.

I don’t think Ryan would be anything like as bad as Manchin, but that’s a pretty low bar!

Going to switch topics now, because in a leak from inside the Supreme Court, a (draft) opinion shows that a majority plans to overturn Roe v Wade. Not surprising really but still shocking to see it in writing. People who know a lot more than me about legal matters are saying the document is legit…

At some point soon, in many states, it may be illegal to get an abortion even if you’re a victim or rape.

I’m still processing exactly what it could mean if the Supreme Court does overturn Roe v Wade, but a few things come to mind…

Abortion will become 100% illegal in many states. Good article here from just a few weeks ago…

https://centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/articles/abortion-battlefields-in-a-potentially-post-roe-political-world/

Other Federally protected rights such as Gay marriage could be in danger too based on the logic of the draft decision.

This is one of the few issues that might actually motivate Democrats to get to the polls in great numbers later this year for the mid-terms.

We knew this was coming when McConnell executed the seat steal over the Garland block and Barrett seat grab. But it's still an absolute punch in the gut. This is going to kill a lot of people with unsafe abortions.

And yes, they are absolutely coming after gay marriage. That is acutely right there in Alito's arguments. They may even roll back Loving vs. Virginia, which removed laws banning interracial marriage.

Just an appalling day.

Roll back women's rights.  Roll back gay rights.  Take dead aim at voting rights.

What's next on the Republican agenda?  Ban the teaching of evolution through natural selection?  Mandatory school prayer?  Mandatory teaching of Creationism?  Declare all forms of gun control as violating Second Amendment rights?

Absolutely feck all to do with what's best for the people or society in general, but everything to do with a collection of stories thousands of years old, written for a completley different era, place & people.

New Details Reveal Trump's View Of State Violence

Most of it I watched during the times it was all happening, It was scary, it was shocking that it could happen in a CFountry where yes violence could be encountered, but never stated so emphatically by to my memory any previous President in my lifetime. Because of my choice of life profession I saw of course in much of my time groups who followed for whatever personal reasons a leader who was obviously not mentally stable or just bad, they generally learned to their misfortune their error, there was often as will be the case with Trump, the simple gee he just seemed to be alright. Of course so was Stalin, Putin, Hitler, and many others which people for and against learned that their fate was sealed with no return.

While America has always been very religious, it seems that the Christian Fundamentalists have taken control of the political agenda, and they have beliefs that are more severe than other Christians.

Here is the Biblical passage that they say justifies their anti-abortion stance.  Make sense of it if you can:

Jeremiah 1:5 -"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you."

Everyone knows, of course, that an abortion ban does not stop abortions.  Women with means will always have access to safe abortions.  Poor women will also get abortions, but they will be unsafe and some of them will die.

Roe v Wade will soon be history.  It was always just a matter of time once Trump made three appointments to the SCOTUS.

Many people in the USA will be jubilant at this turn of events.  Many other people will see it as a step back in time, as you suggest.  Ironically, many of the same people who are opposed to legal  abortions are equally opposed to contraception, the safest and most reliable means of reducing the need for abortions.  Go figure!

Once Roe/Wade is overturned, same sex marriage is next.
