High security?

Came through Blackburn Cross this morning.  Was held up (as was all the traffic) for about 7 minutes while a convoy from Addiewell prison came through, heading for the M8 Glasgow bound.  Six police motorcycles, and four police cars escorting a very large prison transport vehicle.   There's no press coverage of any high security trial going on but whoever is being transported must be seen as a high risk prisoner.  Anybody any info on this?

It could be Alesha MacPhail murderer going back to court.A hearing today about identifying him.

As a child, he is held at Polmont, not Addiewell. And that trial ended yesterday.  Sentencing in a month's time.

One of the biggest trials in Scottish history. All 6 are being held in Addiewell for the duration of the trial. Huge escort back and forth to Edinburgh High Court every day due to their connections. It will be a big story when the trial ends.

I would guess then that the lack of reporting in last few weeks means some sensitivity around witnesses etc.

This exactly.

I would not want to be a witness or a member of the jury in this case.

Why in cases like this, do they always tell us the total of all the sentences doled out? :veryangry:

Its meaningless. Especially as most are released early.

There's an interesting story today as well of someone charged with a very serious offence having been released half way through previous sentence for violence and still under supervision.

A man has appeared in court charged with murdering Bradley Welsh outside his West End home last month.

Sean Orman, 28, made no plea as he appeared in private from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

Orman, whose address was given as Addiewell, faced a string of charges including murdering Bradley, 48, and the attempted murder of a father and son in their Oxgangs home in March.

No matter what you think of individual involved there are a lot of things to be answered for here, the accused by the looks of it has been released early and from my limited knowledge should have been supervised !!

I get that folk can't be watched 24 hours a day when not in Jail but this is quite disturbing.

And heading west on the M8, to Glasgow.

I saw a similar convoy a couple of weeks ago, and forgot to check the court roles.

On the Glasgow case of course no one who arranged the assaults has been identified.

And I wonder it in the Edinburgh case being caught was always expected. Car was left untouched for example.

We can't discuss possible previous events as it could influence a trial. Who knows who was being talking about earlier.

Doctor FinnBarr

Over the last few months I've been held up a few times on the way in to my backshift by plod bikes blocking off the traffic lights between Blackburn and Redmill as they take these wasters home to Addiewell. They must have been early yesterday as I had 8 bikes and a fancy car up my arse just before Newhouse.

His name is

A video of the judge psssing sentence on these guys was on social media. He made reference to one of the guys having previous convictions for 4 attempted murders and has now been sentenced for another 2. How was some one like that still walking the streets. Absolute soft touch of a nation!

You only get released after half your sentence if you're sentenced to under 45 months. If it's over that you'll be doing the full whack, even if there is a chance you'll be moved to Castle Huntly at some point near the end where you can get days and weekends at home to see how you're reintegrating into the community, under strict conditions.

This crew will be doing their full sentences pretty much, no doubt. They're lucky the top guys only got 20s, a lot of people were expecting it to be closer to 30 year sentences.
