France again ffs. Wonder if one day these evil cowardly freaks will do anything original. Ah, a mass shooting at a public gathering, must've taken years of thought and planning. Utter scum.

Police said the suspect was already known to the security services as a possible terrorist threat.”

Always.

A cynic would say an ‘attack on France’ is a pretty convienent distraction at the moment from the yellow vest protests..

Don't think originality is their primary concern. It's not a Britain's Got Talent entry.

Despite the area being tightly cordonned off, bollarded, heavily policed by armed cops and soldiers as part of Operation Sentinelle.

Can't stop a lone nutcase hell bent on doing damage.

I know, they could fly a drone in and drop some bombs or just do a fly by and scatter bombs everywhere killing hundreds. But that's not terrorism, is it.

Ken. For a group that are meant to hate America they do like to copy their mass murder methods. Get your own ideas ffs.

This thread has been going for almost 11 hours and we have 12 posts and even then few are about the incident itself. Kinda backs up my point and is indicative about the impact these acts of terrorism now have, especially in France. Two people have lost their lives but yet I could start a thread about mince pies or someone referring to someone with the wrong pronoun and we would be on page 3 already.

Sad to see that. I am usually in Strasbourg this time of year for work and the Christmas markets are usually heavily patrolled by military etc, particularly since the Paris and Nice attacks few years back.

Think it's more to do with the route each one of these threads goes down, every time there's a terrorist incident.  Starts off fine, then the same arguments, with the same people, take prevalence again. That leaves the main subject and thought behind the well intentioned OP starter, redundant.

Personally speaking, anyway. No point getting involved in these threads anymore, despite my feelings on each incident.

I get you but to be fair most 'Shed' and increasingly so,' Terrac

p.s my mince pies thread is coming later.

To be brutally honest, it's says a lot that I now read events like this with little emotion. I should be outraged, terrified and upset about it but my overriding emotion is, sigh another one. I've actually became desensitised to reading about it now. Unless it's on a large scale, I feel like many people are the same.

3 folk are dead and that's horrific but it barely registers on a personal level. Isn't that utterly depressing.

You are not alone.   Unless someone is personally connected it is just the way of life now.  I am sure someone here and there will change their profile pic to the French tricolor on facebook and say how heartbroken they are but they too will deep down feel the same.

I did something this morning that I rarely do now and that was check the newspaper headlines online and it barely even got column inches.

Main suspect killed by police, all known contacts of his taken into custody.

If they found this guy as a result of extracting the right info out of his cohorts via painful means then I will be absolutely... disinterested.     Couldn't give a ****.       The psycho is an ex-psycho.    Job done.

Again he fits the profile of recent bams:

Born in the EU, a career criminal, radicalised in jail.

Seems that jails across Europe need better management to prevent people entering as wee bams and leaving as extremists.

This is also true for far-right recruitment, which is also being done in jails at the moment.

In the UK, Islamic terror referrals to Prevent (agency which deals with anonymous tip offs about extremist behaviour) were down 11% this year but far-right alerts were up 36%.

And for the first time ever, referrals to Channel (which provides specialist support to people considered at risk of radicalisation) had an equal number of cases for far-right and jihadi recruits.

If the enemy of your enemy is a Nazi, then he's not your friend.

He's a Nazi and deserves to be treated as such.
