I worked in a homeless hostel for a while and it was heartbreaking to hear how the residents became homeless and how their lives gradually deteriorated.  It can happen to anyone.  One of the residents had been a pilot and when his wife died he couldn't cope with the grieve.  The inability to cope with grieve is a surprisingly big one in this area.  However as others have noted there is a minority of some homeless who cant manage a normal tenancy for whatever reason ( too much responsibility) and prefer to live in total institutions likes hostels.   However I do emphasis a minority and it is in my experience.

Cheers for the impute  mate.

Its always good that people like your self that actually work or are involved in such charities come out and tell it as it is rather than those who do nothing but blame those in such hardships.

I'm not a religous man but the maxim 'There but for the grace of god go I' is one that I always try to keep in mind.

Not religious either but that quote resonates with me too.  A large percentage of homeless tned to have had traumatised early life experiences which affects their ability to cope with change ( losing a job, loved one etc) and then it all goes pear shaped from there. They haven't build up resilience like most people are able to do.

Anyone seen that 'homeless' guy who walks about the town in Edinburgh draped in Scottish flags wearing the kilt etc?  I saw him in Tesco recently and he was shouting at everyone to only buy the sausages with the saltire on them.

ri Alban is that you?

I know the guy you mean. He may have mental health issues but he is very aggressive and at times pretty threatening.

Will that be enough to tempt you back from your South American utopia and make some kind of contribution to an enconomy you've thus far done **** all but lecture us about?

Fair post.

Epic fail. I make voluntary NI contributions, which go into the coffers right now and are used right now.

But congratulations on completely proving my point in one single sentence. Because in a lousy, stinking "I'm alright Jack, now **** off" cesspit, whole generations end up thinking that the only thing that matters is themselves. They can't conceive of anyone who might care because they're a) citizens b) and b) have friends and family who are suffering the consequences of said lousy, stinking cesspit.

Oh, and by the way: if you think the problems of one of the richest countries on planet Earth are down to lack of resources, you must have the intellectual capacity of a small lettuce leaf. The banks crashed the economy; the poor have paid the price (many with their lives), while the bankers have got richer, and richer, and richer.

That means you'll be entitled to a full state pension though right? Almost like a bad savings account really.

Your attitude to other people is horrendous, but I don't think for a second you'd speak to folk like that face to face. You might believe you're on a different intellectual level to others, you might even be right, but as far as emotional intelligence goes, well, small lettuce leaf comes to mind.

Nothing like an ignorant generalisation. Your arrogance seems to be as high as your financial acumen. Well in.

Hi  Im wondering if your talking about that very aggressive guy who sounds very similar to whom u describe.  He asks for money and if you refuse can be very abusive. He was extremely abusive to me and it was actually quite scarey. I know others have had similar experiences to me re him.  Hes around 40 wears a skanky looking kilt, short hair etc ?  Im not downing homeless people but this guy is a complete nuisance and dangerous ( and before anyone thinks im a heartless ******* I do recognise he may have serious mental health issues )

See above in my response to I8. I don't think you're being heartless, you're spot on.

If this was happening in France there would be more than just Yellow jackets on the streets.

If a parent does not feed or keep their children warm they would be hauled over the coals by Social Services for child abuse, yet the Govt creates these circumstances; the United Nations damms them but nothing is done.

Fecking  pure vile Tory party consisting  of pure heartless b*********. How can anyone vote for them, their direct polices are causing utter misery for children, C*****.
