So I’ve never really been one for using razors, always really just used anface trimmer as my skin has always been quite sensitive to razors and find I get a lot of ingrown hairs and razor burns if I shave more than once every few days. However I’m wanting to try and shape my beard a bit more around my neck, so wouldnrsther try and find the best razor for my needs. Does anyone have any recommendations? Along with the best shaving foam to use?

Use a safety razor or a andis foil shaver they are brilliant and you get the head for sensitive skin, they don't cut long hair either so you can get right to the edge of the beard. The bluebeards revenge range of shaving products is really good and it's a ok price or even akro shaving soap that's dirt cheap and foams up nicely. Just go to the barber's first to get it lined up properly. I get loads of guys in that try do their beards and **** it up and once it's squint it's very hard to straighten it off.

Take it you’re a barber, Herbert?

As usual, I recommend getting a decent quality razor from your local supermarket, you don't need to spend a fortune, and a Razor Pit which will keep your blade clean and sharp for months and save you a fortune.

I use hair conditioner instead of specialist products by the way, it's cheap and I've never found anything else that was so forgiving on my sensitive skin.

You should look into single blade shaving vs multiblade. It's often the 3 blades that cause the irritation and ingrown hairs.

I'm fine now mate, a combination of the mrs' hair conditioner and the razor pit means I have the cheapest shaves in Scotland with little or no irritation. I've tried single blades by the way, still terrible for the skin - it's  the hair conditioner that makes the difference

Hopefully it's not £15 a bottle conditioner ?

I got a Wilkinson Sword Classic double edge razor and it is the best shave I can remember, I did buy it for similar reasons of trimming around the beard and it is brilliant

What's the story with the hair conditioner? Do you use that instead of shave gel/foam?

Exactly, moisturises and soothes as you go, it works a treat

Cool, might give that a go. What one do you use if you don't mind me asking?

Whatever the Mrs is using, usually cheap and cheerful stuff. You won't go back if you suffer from irritation!

Regarding this item from Amazon, are you aware how this item differs from the other Razor Pit items that available for around half the price?

Sorry, just reread this.

There have been a couple of wee developments but as far as I know it's just in the shape. The cheaper ones work the same way and are made of the same stuff so you can save a few quid if you don't need a stand.

Is there a bigger rip off in the world than razor blades?

Printer/copier ink? Same scam really - sell the razor/printer cheap then charge a fortune for refills.

Thing is, we all have taps so there are alternatives. Decent razor blades are necessary for the likes of me with thick stubble.

Printer cartridges are a good shout though. The price of them for what is basically a bit of plastic with a dribble of ink in is outrageous.

That's what makes it such a rip off!

I have very thick stubble and very  sensitive skin myself so I get it, but I really do recommend getting a decent razor and using the razor pit. I change blade every 3-6 months and save a fortune, flicking the vickies at Bob Gillette and Craig Wilkinson Sword all the way.
