For a wee bit of fun and to bring some early Christmas spirit to JKB on a cold November morning. What's your favourite Christmas songs and films?

I'll kick off with Boney M Mary's boy child and It's a wonderful life.

Miracle on 34th st, the newer version with the wee girl from Matilda and Dickie Attenborough. Song, the pogues, fairytale of New York. There’s clearly a New York theme appearing.

Fairytale of New York by The Pogues. Nothing else matters at Christmas.

Oh, and Die Hard remains the best Christmas movie of all time.

Fairy tale of New York: Pogues. Nothing else gets me in the Xmas spirit more than this song.

Home Alone: This film just oozes Xmas from start to finish.

As others have said the Pogues wins hands down, closely followed by Darlene Love's All Alone on Christmas

Home Alone 1&2 and The Santa Clause for the movies

Fairy Tale of New York and I must admit to being surprised how good The Polar Express was,

Holiday Inn and Wonderful life up there as well......oh and the original Scrooge.

Yep Christmas wrapping is a classic, just the start and the bells does it for me. Posted this before I think but go on YouTube and treat yourself to Lawrence Welk’s 1957 Jingle Bells album or try for selected tracks.

been here before

White Christmas by the Hearts fans in The Shed. And a few other grounds over the years.

We should really start doing that again.

What a tough question.

Songs from:- Slade, Wizzard, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Paul McCartney, Greg Lake....all much better than The Pogues, imo. ?

Movies:-  Trading Places, Lethal Weapon, Elf, Santa Claus The Movie, Muppets Christmas Carol....

Need to go away,  have a think, and strip it back to a top 2. :)

I'll go with Boney M's Little Drummer Boy, and the Alistair Sim version of Scrooge ( aka A Christmas Carol).

Reg Owen? Supposedly the best version of A Christmas Carol. The one and only Alastair Sim for me, other than the one and only Bill Murray.

Seeing your post has saved me typing out the same answer. Always watch the first 2 die hard films over the festive period.

I cannot stand Paul McCartney's Christmas effort. Dreadful!

I'd concur with the mentions of Die Hard and Home Alone 1&2. Last Christmas by Wham deserves a mention for the tune.

For a Christmas programme, The Office Christmas Specials are the best I've seen. The finale accompanied with 'Back for Good' and 'Only You' is perfectly written and acted.

Mull of Kintyre - Wings was pretty good.

Is it really a Christmas song though or just a song that was out at Christmas?

Movies It's a Wonderful Life and the original Miracle on 34th St. Plus a wee bit of Polar Express for good measure.

I've had that Dylan song on my Christmas playlist for a few years now but had never seen the video. God, it's weird! Don't think I've ever seen him trying a dance before and don't think I want to again!

Answering the question (sort of): most of the best ones have been mentioned (Fairytale, Wombles, Wizzard, Slade, Cavalry) but I'll give honorable mentions to:

* Springsteen's Santa Claus is Coming to Town

* Eartha Kitt's Santa Baby

* The Ramones - Merry Christmas (I Don't want to fight tonight)

* Simon & Garfunkel - 7 o'clock news

* Stina Nordenstam - Soon After Christmas

* Kelly Clarkson - Run Run Rudolf

And I actually like the first Band Aid...

(Sorry - I love a Christmas song or two!)

It's a Wonderful Life is the only Christmas movie I care about.

Just out at Xmas but better than the so called Xmas song IMO.
