Anne's Song (Sporting Battalion)

All clubs steal songs. You’re only irritated because it’s Sheffield United.

I’m irritated because it’s shit and it’s a club’s anthem that we have no right to steal and sing. I remember a thread on here years ago when people were complaining about Mansfield ripping off the Hearts song. What’s the difference?

And why stop at Annie’s Song? Z cars is a good tune we could start playing that over the tannoy, and start singing Blowing Bubbles and Marching on Together. This is embarrassing ?‍♂️

We do have the right to steal it, and perhaps the problem is that fans up here don’t readily identify the song with just one club. I assume it is only used by Sheffield United?

It’s difficult to think of a truly original song - even the Hearts song has been lifted from earlier tunes.

The Sheffield United version is very good. This one is pretty decent as well.

I like the Sheffield United one because it's more about the other smells/tastes/feelings of the city or going to a match. Ours could be replaced with more Hearts connotations other than the location eg "a gallon of Strongbow", "the smell from the brewery", "a pint in The Diggers" etc.

You fill up my senses,

Like a pint in The Diggers,

Like a steak pie and bovril,

Like a sea of maroon

Like beating the Hibees,

Celebrating in Gorgie

Oh Heart of Midlothian

Come thrill me again

I like them both but prefer this. Each to their own etc but I dont think 'copying' another club's songs (depending on what they are of course) diminishes from them if they are adopted by fans. Who knows if they will become part of our songbook but fair play to those who have tried.

See, if that never gets sung, at least it's made me (and quite a few others) smile.

But I'm a cup-five-sixths-full kind of guy.

;)

Blah blah blah...

I got given a suggestion by a poster on here. The suggestion was to use a song by John Denver (Annie's Song), which has already been used by Sheffield Utd fans.

The poster wrote the new words. He didn't want to be credited but my daughter said that the words and the idea are so good that he deserves to be credited.

So, thanks a million to gcjambo.

I think a lot of the kickbackers are going to love this.

Been here before type posting style.  Or just setting the record for being angry in the least amount of posts.

Used to be a member about 6 years ago. Can't remember username or password or even the e-mail address I set it up with at the time. What difference does it make?

None at all.  I like the anger.  I think it's got legs.  There aren't enough angry posters due to the results.  There's definitely a gap in the market.

You have to admit none of the excellent lyrical suggestions can get away from the fact it's a chronically shite tune?

It would be very different when sung buy a stand full of people though.

Remember singing this as a kid in the playground in the 1970's.

"We won the war

We won the war

Ee-aye-adio

We won the war"

Can we resurrect it?

Why would you want to sing hymns at a football match?

It's not a hymn.

Even if it was, why is that a problem?  A lot of terrace songs/chants use the same music as hymns.  For example "When The Hearts Go Marching In" or "We Can See You Sneaking Out". Thats just two, TWO, quick examples there.

The tune from the Hearts song came from a hymn or has at least been used by a hymn if that wasn't the original.
