I suspect the club look at more than just statistics when signing a striker. Gavin Reilly also scored a decent number at that level.

We have a squad that tells me we should never take a punt on any player - remember that Bikey lad, FFS scored goals for fun at a much lower level.

I'm guessing Wighton will play wide for us, on the right, but could be wrong. Shankland is a poacher, trust that we are not looking for that type of player.

I expect Naismith to play up front shortly, as the midfield options expand

I always stereotyped poachers to be wee guys who were invariably in the right place at the right time.

At over 6' tall and built to match, it's hard to consider Shankland in that regard.

Admittedly, I've rarely seen the lad, but from what I have seen he is more of a traditional striker than anything else, and one that can score goals.

Hopefully he is still on our radar.

PS, delighted with the prospect of Wighton signing.

Bikey hardly scored goals for fun. He only played 9 games for Stirling (scored 9 goals mind). He signed for nothing on an amateur contract. Can’t compare him to the likes of Shankland and Wighton.

Your using the goal ratio of a mainly 3rd division striker to knock the ratio of an SPL winger/forward?

:laugh2:

That Steven Naismiths shite aswell, only got 5 goals in 20 league games. Rory McAllister has 130 in 200.

So do you mean that we should never sign a player from lower leagues because their standard is too low?

Players have to start somewhere...

This guy is young, banging in the goals like no tomorrow, and (in the grand scheme of things) not *too* expensive.

As I previously said - well worth consideration

No, point was your comparison was nonsense.

A striker scoring more goals per game in the 3rd division than a winger does in the SPL doesn't make the wingers record poor. It's completely irrelevant.

Let's remember that El Bakhtoui (first time at Dunfermline) was on fire - scored every week - steps up the Premiership, no body sees him again.

I trust my managers judgement over fellow fans judgement

Well said! How many fans arguing that we should sign him have actually watched him play?

Championship Player of the month. Not sure how he got it ahead of Stephen Dobbie..

because 5 of Dobbie’s goals came in September ?‍♂️

All roads lead to Gorgie

Scored with a great placed header tonight at Tannadice. We should still be having a look at him surely!

I don't know what it is, but nobody seems to be interested in signing him, certainly a bottom six club like Hibs or Dundee should be interested ? There has to be a reason ?

I am sure Ayr have turned down multiple offers already for him.

£150,000 being one figure quoted from an unnamed English club.

I think his record at Aberdeen and his lack of games and goals is the reason

He was unlucky not to score again just now. He looks like a player who comes alive in the box unlike anyone we have at the moment.

The rumour is how much he gets from wages, goal bonus (which is allegedly ridiculous) and what he makes outside football.

Same story as Rory McAllister. Chat there was Aberdeen went in for him again. He turned it down as he would be making more playing for Peterhead and as a plumber than Aberdeen could offer.

At championship level he seems to be top class

we tried but were not successful previously.  He wanted to play on a regular basis and he could not be promised that as well as knowing his contract situation will change in Summer 2019.

Starting to believe in himself after previously more worried about making mistakes.

Good coach in Ian McCall telling him to express himself.

Statement result this by Ayr. Tremendous performance.

What would happen if they got promoted? Where would they play their home games as presumably Somerset wouldn’t be allowed? Killie?

Cummings, Clark, Keatings, Reilly, lots of players score for fun in that league and then can’t do it at the higher level.

The step up in the quality of goalies and defenders in the Premiership is a big one. I remember us scoring loads of goals from outside the box in the championship partly because the goalies were so bad and defenders were so much slower and poorer positionally.

It would be foolish for any Premiership club not to take a punt on him. We should be right in there.

It would probably be an expensive punt too with the high profile his goalscoring is getting, and that probably takes him out of our budget.

We signed the likes of Dennis Wyness and Gavin Reilly from the championship and as soon as they got to the SPL their goals dried up.

None of them were nearly as prolific though. Shankland's current total of 16 league goals is already better than Keatings, Clark and Reilly have ever managed in an entire season. It's only 3 goals off Cummings' best as well.

Not sure where I got this from as clearly nonsense, but I was always under the impression that Reilly had scored 30-odd for QoS the season prior to us signing him! Makes the decision to sign him all the more dubious as he was pretty shite!

I don't think Reilly was shite. We played better with him in the team and I don't think he really got a chance.

His energy and movement were great but that isn't enough.

No you're right enough , I just would have like him to get more games. We could really do with him now to be fair.
