Spellczech
I suspect the club look at more than just statistics when signing a striker. Gavin Reilly also scored a decent number at that level.
Armageddon
We have a squad that tells me we should never take a punt on any player - remember that Bikey lad, FFS scored goals for fun at a much lower level.

Shankland is a poacher, trust that we are not looking for that type of player. I expect Naismith to play up front shortly, as the midfield options expand I always stereotyped poachers to be wee guys who were invariably in the right place at the right time. At over 6' tall and built to match, it's hard to consider Shankland in that regard. Admittedly, I've rarely seen the lad, but from what I have seen he is more of a traditional striker than anything else, and one that can score goals. Hopefully he is still on our radar. PS, delighted with the prospect of Wighton signing. Edited August 29, 2018 by Busby8

Bikey hardly scored goals for fun. He only played 9 games for Stirling (scored 9 goals mind). He signed for nothing on an amateur contract. Can’t compare him to the likes of Shankland and Wighton. That Steven Naismiths shite aswell, only got 5 goals in 20 league games. Rory McAllister has 130 in 200. So do you mean that we should never sign a player from lower leagues because their standard is too low? Players have to start somewhere... This guy is young, banging in the goals like no tomorrow, and (in the grand scheme of things) not *too* expensive. As I previously said - well worth consideration

A striker scoring more goals per game in the 3rd division than a winger does in the SPL doesn't make the wingers record poor. It's completely irrelevant.

Chat there was Aberdeen went in for him again. He turned it down as he would be making more playing for Peterhead and as a plumber than Aberdeen could offer.

ToqueJambo
Cummings, Clark, Keatings, Reilly, lots of players score for fun in that league and then can’t do it at the higher level. The step up in the quality of goalies and defenders in the Premiership is a big one. I remember us scoring loads of goals from outside the box in the championship partly because the goalies were so bad and defenders were so much slower and poorer positionally. None of them were nearly as prolific though. Shankland's current total of 16 league goals is already better than Keatings, Clark and Reilly have ever managed in an entire season. It's only 3 goals off Cummings' best as well.
