Lafferty moves to Rangers for undisclosed fee ( updated/merged )

£200k bid turned down.

Hearts have rejected a bid from Rangers for striker Kyle Lafferty, STV can reveal.

We understand the bid was £200,000, which falls substantially short of the Edinburgh club's valuation of the player, who is in the final year of his contract.

The Ibrox club are looking to bolster their attacking options and identified Lafferty as a target before making their approach on Thursday.

Rangers chairman Dave King told STV earlier this week that he anticipated two more new signings and with Kean Bryan expected to join from Manchester City, it appears that Lafferty was intended to be the final piece of the jigsaw.

New Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was frustrated by his side's lack of cutting edge in the Europa League tie against FK Shkupi and the addition of Lafferty would give him more options up front.

Roma forward Umar Sadiq has joined on loan and is working towards match fitness, with Alfredo Morelos scoring against Osijek on Thursday to make his claim for a starting spot.

Lafferty played for Rangers between 2008 and 2012, enjoying the most successful spell of his career. Recruited from Burnley, he scored over 30 goals in the four-year spell and won three SPL titles and a Scottish Cup.

Following the financial collapse at Ibrox in 2012, he exercised his right to become a free agent and then signed for Swiss side Sion That was followed by a season at Palermo where he won promotion and a move to Norwich where he failed to hold down a first team place and was loaned to Caykur Rizespor and then Birmingham City. Last summer, he was courted by both Hibs and Hearts before signing with the Tynecastle club on a two-year deal. The 30-year-old scored 12 goals in 35 games last season.

Same old Rangers. You paid £3.5m for him last time - insulting to  both player and Hearts to offer £200k this time. We all know the next step is to wait for the "irresistable lure of RFC and ra peepul" to unsettle Lafferty and have him agitating for a move west...

So which ex-Rangers player will be in the papers tomorrow talking about how perfect a fit Lafferty will be for Steven Gerrard's squad?

I'm thinking someone like Kris Boyd.

£200k is an absolute joke, but if people don't think his head will now be turned they are mental.  We shouldn't sell for less than £1m, anything else isn't worth it for us.

£200,000

Cheeky *******s.

Although, now he needs to sign an extension or go, can't have him hanging on waiting for a move.

Shame, hopefully Lafferty comes out for us and signs an extension.

If folk thought a Hearts fans like Walker was desperate for a move, can’t wait to see how badly lafferty tries to push this through

I'm slightly fearful that the bid, which is primarily just to unsettle Lafferty, will have had its desired effect.

That's not even cheeky, thats an insane bid for him, i'm sure we'd tell them to bolt even if they were offering the 800k that they'll get from Waghorn's move

Final year of his contract but he's worth at least 7 times that amount.

Disgusting bid.

Cartel is up and running. Celtic unsettle Hibs top player, Rangers unsettle ours. Same old same old. Last seasons carry on with the Aberdeen manager and Walker all over again.

They should be giving that to every club as a mark of appreciation for being helped to get back to competing towards top of league.

I don't think £200,000 is anywhere near enough and frankly I'd rather we didn't sell Rangers the steam off our pish ................ however, I guess a big factor here is what Lafferty himself wants to do.  Is it counter productive to keep hold of a player who doesn't want to stay?  If we ask him to sign an extension and he says yes then happy days, if he says no then I'd say the writing's on the wall.

30 goals in a four year spell there isn't exactly prolific.

Hearts had better play hardball on this one.

Even if Laff begs Anne / Craig to let him talk to them, they should tell him it aint happening without an up front amount of £ x

That £ x should be in region of £750k to £1.5 mil

Scummy mutant pricks - hate them !

Maybe it’s a double swoop for Naismith too. Looks like they’ve forgiven and forgotten, what with signing mcgregor too.
