Fair point actually. We all remember how that worked out.

:levein2:

He did look class in glimpses but probably good for us to remember, with Clare in mind, that ability isn't everything. Bit of good fortune also needed.

FWIW I predict Clare will do well, similar do Mitchell in being exciting, fast and technically superior to many, but naïve at times. Will be fun to see!

I think we’ve done a deal with Clare promising him a very hefty chunk of any future transfer fee......it appears this lad and his agent have got their heads screwed on.

50% of £50m – no problem.

The best thing about that is it benefits all parties for him to have a great season then for his agent to negotiate a bigger transfer fee with 2 years left.

This sounds mad but in the joy of Clare signing I forgot Mitchell had signed. Two big signings for us among many this window. And the thought of Clare and Mitchell linking well and terrorising defences is a lovely one.

If so then that is absolutely perfect. He is going to be giving 110% every game so ensure there is a queue of clubs chasing his signature. Equally he will not be wanting to **** us about trying to get a move away on the cheap or (if he did stay the 3 years) a presign in last 6 months.

“I see him as a player who can play in a four-man midfield because of his athleticism,” said Levein. “At times, it would be good to play with four in midfield and two out-and-out strikers. We’ve done that at home a few times. He can cover the ground and has the technical ability to play centrally or out wide. “It just brings another strength to the team. We don’t have a player as mobile as him, someone with that pace, power, size and strength. All of those things make me feel good about having him.”

“He’s just really good. He was at Sheffield Wednesday, his contract was up and he decided he was leaving,” said Levein. “He was going to one of a number of Championship or even Premier League clubs who were interested and the idea was that we would then take him on loan. Because obviously his wages would be way beyond what we can afford. “But one or two things happened with clubs he thought he would sign for, he had an injury, had to get a foot operation in March – and people had already signed their
players just when he was getting fit. So the deal changed from us getting him on loan
to whether we could get him permanently.

“What has been good for us is that, for him to go from
Sheffield Wednesday to another Championship club or a Premier League club in England, if they don’t agree on a fee, it would go to a tribunal and it could be set as high as seven figures. “But cross-border compensation is more straightforward, black and white. They’re a category two club, we’re a category two club, and it’s 60,000 Euros for every year he was at Sheffield Wednesday and he’s been there two-and-a-half years. So, the question then became could we find 150,000 Euros to invest in a player we would normally not be able to sign. “For me, it’s a good investment. The bonus is that he’s ours. The way the cards have fallen, it’s worked out particularly well for us.”

Does anybody know when he will be brought into the fold?

If you mean, when will he play, he is a couple weeks off according to CL, although when he was getting interviewed at Half time during the Livi game Sean seemed to be suggesting a little sooner !

Captain Canada

My mate's a Wednesday fan and he's gutted he didn't sign a new deal with them. He said he can't understand why he'd leave them and come to Hearts.

I had a quick chat with Sean Clare before the game in Saturday and he seems genuinely delighted to be here.

CL mentioned the way the deal was going to work was a EPL/Championship team we’re going to buy him and loan him to us, but his injury put a stop to that and we ended up getting him cos the English teams had already signed their targets.

We had to pay 60,000 for each season he was with Wed, also said that SC had dropped his wage demands to meet our salary cap.

Very excited about this signing, could make us a fortune.

Possible bench place tomorrow, or still too soon?

Thinking it could be good to have someone Motherwell know absolutely nothing about, to come on late if its a tight match.

CL has said he is a couple of weeks away, not trained since March.

I'd love to know if Uche is playing but I bet Motherwell would also.  My guess is he's coming off the bench.

Hope McDonald gets a run if CL I'd confident in him and looking forward to Harry returning.

Get him on the bench tonight, might be handy for ET

The game isn’t televised, unless it’s on extraterrestrial tv?

I see the reserves play Hibs again at the Oriam (kick off 2pm) on Monday.

Presumably Clare will start in that and get a good run out. Hopefully he will be involved at Ibrox after the International break.

Levein said this morning he was still at least a week away from playing. Whether that would include the reserves, I'm not sure.

He's just done training by himself up till now and has just started being involved with the first team squad very recently.

I was flying to London yesterday morning and he was going through security at the same time as me, presumably also travelling to London to see relatives / moving stuff (although I don’t know as he wasn’t on my flight).

He was with his partner and seemed happy enough.

You’d expect that he’d be at training on a Thursday if he had a chance of being involved, rather than travelling out of Edinburgh, so I doubt we’ll see him this weekend.

Team's doing well so no need to rush him but the prospect of him and Vanacek being in contention for first team places for the second half of the season is pretty exciting, plus Berra back along with the likes of Brandon and Godinho.

He was sat a few rows in front of me at the Motherwell game on Wednesday in the main stand. Really looking forward to seeing him in action think he could be a gem.

Should hopefully see Clare playing within the next week or two and Godinho is back in training so shouldn't be far away.  I haven't heard anything recently about how far Brandon is away from returning, previously I recall Levein saying October was the target.   That's effectively like having 3 new signings coming in over the next month.  Then as you say, we have Vanacek to look forward to in January and Berra hopefully back by then as well, ready to fight for his place in our defence!

Yeah, I’m on a run of spotting Hearts players...

Saw Sean Clare along with Uche, Godinho, Brandon and Harry at Nando’s before the game.

Didn’t want to bother them much but quickly asked Uche how is foot was and he also said he should be back next week.

Alarmingly just spotted Morrison on crutches.

Had training gear on , no cast or anything. Maybe a precaution and took a knock at training today?
