This one has really surprised me and will probably be liked by @Morgan

Its a view along Corstorphine, along St Johns Road. Thought I had seen most Corstorphine angles but not this one.

The Great Lafayettehe has been treading the boards there for 108 years now  (Sigmund Neuberger). Site where the Festival Theatre now is.

A lion died that day as well

Its actually the longest continuous theatrical site in Edinburgh, something has been there since 1830

Dunedin Hall,

the Royal Amphitheatre,

Alhambra Music Hall,

the Queen’s Theatre,

Pablo Fanque's Amphitheatre, and Newsome’s Circus,

then Empire Palace Theatre

it ran from the corner of Chesser Ave along Hutchison Rd

i think the first store was in the ground floor of the building but my memory may be playing tricks as that would be around 1970 and I was only 6

It went when the fruit market was built on the old railway  cattle market depot. That would be in the mid/late sixties, before the government building existed.

Sort of ties in with my memories. My granny stayed in the top flat overlooking it on Hutchison Rd. Government building, Pentland House, seems to have been in the planning stage at the PSA in 69/70. I am guessing therefore that pre 69 i could See the old building from her window. I can also remember the fruit market being built.

I've never heard of this.

braid.jpg

"Ski jumping came to the Braid Hills in April 1951. 55 tons of snow were brought from Norway and a temporary jump constructed. Crowds of over 10,000 people gathered to watch on the two days of competition."

Old Meadowbank, the only stadium I ever playerd in during my football career. Of course other than the two teams there was no one else in the stadium. Also in the early days of speedway used to go down on  a Sunday and the Monarchs guys were doing work on their bikes, got to help them by pushing them to get the bikes started.
