Was there not a Joke shop/Magic shop near to where the Varsity was?

There was, I remember it being just a bit farther towards Bristo, a wee bit to the right of this photo. I seem to remember buying something there as late as 1971??

The part of that block in the background that faces onto Inverleith Row is the only pink sandstone tenement I can think of in Edinburgh.

Thanks, couldn’t remember the name of it. One of my maths teachers at secondary school lived in it. They all got a £100 (I think) inconvenience payment to have the ariels on the building taken down for filming. The film company obviously paid for them being taken down and replaced. A fair chunk of a weeks wages in those days.

Had a wee look for more info and found a FB post from a good Jambo and friend, who sadly passed last year. RIP, Ian.

I am thinking that might be Youngy the fireman hence his ref to Crewe Toll Fire Station?

Aye, that's him.  I didn't know him well but had a couple of great sessions wth him in Dumbarton & Hawick. Was Crewe Toll where he started out?

Yep think so but not for long because he moved to Hawick not long after he joined the Fire Brigade.  I grew up with him from age of 5, we lived in the same street and we started going to the games together at the same time, traveled on the same supporters buses, drank with him et al up until he moved to Hawick and i left for a job in England.   Sessions and Youngy two words that defo went together.  It will be nearly a year since he passed, sad.

Piped in late 70s early 80s. Residents in Westfield Court complained about the amount of rats in it. Remember it well. The BT building was a glue factory, it then went past between a builder's merchant and the Roxy bingo then round back of Westfield court and down the side of pentland laundry which became IS initial laundry. Which had an air raid shelter where Wickes car park is then out the back of the iron foundry (new houses) into the water of leith

Thanks for that, very interesting. 👍

Looks like Broomhouse.  Would those shops, if that's what they are, be where the Broomhouse Centre is now, at the junction of Broomhouse Crescent and Broomhouse Place North?

Not sure, I certainly have never associated that building as a swimming pool. I only ever knew it, until recently, as a pub. I'm just a youngster of 66, so maybe one of the more mature members of this forum can tell us differently.

Dumbryden primary school. That photo must be from the 60s or early 70s? I started there in 78 and that grassy area was all portacabins for extra classrooms.

A map from 1896 has it as Seafield Baths (Disused) and one from 1908 shows it as a pub.
