This is really annoying me. I think it's Dundas Street and Fettes Row, but that looks like train lines running parallel to Fettes Row and under Dundas St, which doesn't make any sense.

The site of the Standard Life office - Dundas House?

I think you're spot on with the location.

Not sure that's a train line, although there was a goods yard just along a bit at Scotland St once upon a time so maybe something to do with that.

Maybe it isn't a train line but sure looks like it. You're right about the goods yard but as far as I'm aware, a line never ran to the west and definitely not under Dundas St. Looking at street view and google maps, it does seem like it would have been possible and even made sense to have a rail line connecting to Silvermills but I've never heard or seen anything to suggest there was.

The more I think about it though, a line running from Scotland St station west under Dundas street and along Silvermills to eventually merge with another tunnel running up the West end would have created a nice inner-city loop and a similar underground system to Glasgow. I wonder if there was ever any consideration of such a scheme?  The construction of the Scotland St tunnel was apparently to give a direct route to Granton (ferry across the forth), but why build that tunnel when they could have created an easier route above ground? Maybe it was part of a grander plan that never happened.

Great thread. "My Edinburgh" was 1955 to 1975 and it is a shock to realise that even in a relatively well preserved city so much has disappeared (not all for the worse mind you).

As a slight aside can someone pop out and take a few pictures of George Street before the Council makes its present dignified appearance as the heart of the New Town history by introducing a "vibrant street scene" with plazas, vegetation, mini--parks and a fast cycle path

This must be the most changed area in Edinburgh. Why can't they just leave it alone ! They are always messing around with it and it's currently a friggin shambles

What the hell was he trying to do driving up there in the wet? It's dodgy enough in a rear wheel drive car never mind a truck.

Clerwood Terminus?

Aye - you never have to wait long for a 26 bus in Edinburgh

They use that terminus now but a while back they parked in a crescent over the road

So really NOT the premier drinks distributor.

They seem to have done a good job distributing the drinks over the road and pavement...

Correct. In the foreground bottom is an old Ford dealership but I can't remember the name.

There is no railway there (re other poster) it's  just an illusion created by the reinforced concrete steel works.

I posted this because of the SMART bus. For some reason I have this bus associated with miners. Maybe completelŷ wrong but was this a bus company that took the miners to the pits. Looks like a miner has just got off it.
