Used to go to Grants quite frequently

Got my Speedway Star from the newspaper seller outside

Wonder when it closed down - about 30 years since?

The ground floor became Pizzaland for a while

I’m sure Grants were one on the first shops to have an escalator.

This one has me stumped!  Guthrie Street coming up from the Cowgate first came to mind?  But it seems too open!

Which was formerly an ESSO petrol station owned by distant family members of my dad. Got my World cup coins there. 1970 possibly?

Great time for these coins, The American space program and the 1970 world cup.

Is that the Holy Goalie pope ?  Cardinal Keith O'Brien breathing a sigh of relief that he hasn't been found out yet.  :whistling:

Nice one, obviously before my time.  Not seen that photo before so that's a plus.  Wonder what the low-rise building was half way up?

Assume the Horseshoe Bar would be up the top at St James Square.  Only other photo I have is this one, apparently from 1966 ...

Any info on these? It looks familiar but unsure if that is due to a previous  photo I might have seen.

Ariel view of the hole in the ground as it was known after the Synod Hall was demolished. The Royal Lyceum on the top right and Castle Terrace the street on the left of the photo. It’s now Saltire Court office block. The planning permission was only given for Saltire Court on the condition there was part of the building that could be used as a theatre. That theatre is the Traverse Theatre. This photo is next to my desk there.

Back in those days the car outside probably belonged to a bloke inside the pub.  He would have sank 10 pints then got in the car that never had seatbelts and ****ed off home in it.
