That must have been taken from the same place as this video of the demolition. Stevenson College no doubt.

Funny that this thread has come back to the 1st page.

I was thinking about it at the weekend and it crossed my mind that @Maroon Sailor has been absent for a good few weeks now.

I hope all is well with him.

Firstly if you went for a dip in the water how the hell did you find where you’d set up your deck chair ?
secondly , that’s my idea of hell , crammed in like that

Sorry if this has been linked before, but it's quite interesting. Before and after shots taken from the same spot, with a slider so that you can superimpose one over the other and see the changes.... some are done with old prints or engravings but there are some gems.  I think one of the Edinburgh papers did something like this too. There's another similar site I will try to find.

I usually do well spotting the streets on this.

Nobody has posted on here for a while can we have some new pictures?

Railway stations are good.

Also difficult to spot streets.

Came across this while looking for an image of Ramsay Gardens, probably posted before

Lost Edinburgh - Ramsay Lodge aka Ramsay Hut or Goosepie... | Facebook

The building was known as Ramsay Lodge aka Ramsay Hut or Goosepie House

No photo description available.

Any reason for "Goosepie House"?

Appears the name Goose Pie House comes from its unusual eight-sided shape, similar to a pie tin.

Part of it still exists

Fair enough but did we have Goose pies at some point?

Can anyone help with a wee question?  Especially, I guess, @luckyBatistuta  @Stuart Lyon  @The Frenchman Returns  and @obua?

You all seem pretty good at finding stuff and, I know you lived in Morningside, LB.

My wife recalls a wee hardware store on Morningside Road in the early to mid-80’s.  It was sort of opposite the Post Office and maybe on the premises that is now a wee baker or maybe the Santander (old Alliance and Leicester).

It sold things like paraffin, oil, tools etc.

I have no recollection of this shop but she swears it did exist.  Ran by an old man and his daughter, she also claims!

Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Morgan I’m 100% sure there was a hardware store there.
Cant recall the name of the shop.

I’m not in Morningside very often.

Occasionally visit Bennett’s.

The next time I’m in the vicinity I will do some sleuthing.

I wonder if I’ve ever been in Wee Bennets at the same time as you?

Quite possibly.

One of the barmaids is that old she maybe remember the shop.

Once the House Arrest is finished I’ll put this on my list to do’s.

The old barmaid is called Jo.

There is also a Joan Collins lookalike who drinks in there.  Has done for 84 years.  She is 102 years old.

Seriously though, Joan Collins does actually drink in wee Bennets.

Why a Kit-Kat?

If you think I’m too young for the answer to be made public, just PM me,

The difference between a Kit Kat and Joan Collins is you can only get 4 fingers in a Kit Kat.

Sadly Thomsons' not open. I'm not a local really so don't recall the shop you mention. There is a shop in Argyll Place called Marchmont Hardware that was run lately by a guy and his daughter; sadly the old guy died not that long ago. I wonder if he relocated his shop from Morningside Road? Will do a bit of searching later on.

Morgan , it couldn’t be the one that’s opposite the Merlin ? It might be it moved premises from one side of the road to the other? currently called Houseproud .

I kept coming across this one as well. On their Facebook page it says this

We are an independent hardware/cookshop based in the Marchmont area of edinburgh. We stock a wide selection of products for the home & garden. This is our 32nd year in business, but the shop has been a hardware store for over 80 years. Pop in and have a brouse through our many items.
