Not be too long and a third photo from the same position will give a completely different vista, two huge changes in a relatively short space of time considering that St James Centre and surrounding hotel and offices have all been built and then demolished in my lifetime.

It was a stable.

It was always a handy place to shelter from the elements with some cans of Tennent's Super and a bit soap bar.

I mind getting my leg over up on the balcony bit in there while my mate was getting his whistle polished on the stable floor down below.

Classy.

The top picture is one I have been wanting to see for years, where the WHEC was built.

The picture does not really show how big the hill was (used to play there as a kid) and they must have needed hundreds of lorries to remove the spoil to allow the WHEC to be built.

In the second picture, that's the community centre I believe and was not built when I attended Sighthill PS (left in 1975 for high school)

Anybody know anything about a football team called 'Southfield Rovers', at least I think that's what they were called, could possibly have played around the Niddrie/Duddingston area but I don't know where exactly.

It's Juniper Green up by the Village Hall (left centre) and the old part of the school (now houses). The tennis courts are still there

Taken from Broomview House, the block of flats which was nearest the Calder Rd roundabout. The first block to be demolished.

Where are you finding these photos?

There's a Facebook page called From There to Here: a Wester Hailes Story. Lots of photos on that.

Bertrams Sciennes, up in the distance, to the right, I should have recognised this, served my apprenticeship there and was there in total for 8 years, prior to their receivership and my redundancy in 1981.

Massive amount of wasted space in that atrium area ? As there is in the north side entrance, before the council offices. Typical, don't improve an area, for people you don't think will vote anyway !

Ha Ha , Belmont Road, to the bottom of the picture, where I live, but without this site, I would never have recognised it !

The area outside the council offices was designated a 'civic square', when they did the area up. The only things close to an event I've seen it hosting is the odd fight, or shouting match.

Martello Court, Muirhouse.

I seem to remember when the first of the large high buildings in the Pilton area were being built in the sixties there was an incident when the balconies collapsed and fell down. Apparently some support had been put in upside down or something and couldn't handle the weight. Nobody was hurt if I recall so I suppose the story just faded away.

See the last one in your list?

I think that came up the other day and we guessed Churchill going down into Morningside, someone said it was not. It may even have been you!

Confused.

I don’t know what happened when I posted that. It put that image at the top of my pictures, but I didn’t add it. I went in and edited it and removed the picture, but then it reappeared at the bottom of my pictures, but I was too late to edit it again. I did think at the time that you would notice:lol:

I like the awnings above shopfronts in the old photos. They should be encouraged in the city if they are quality material and with subtle branding.
