Well put us out the SC when we were holders in 1999. We blew a 2-0 lead at Tynecastle and lost the replay a few years later and I'm sure they beat us in a LC semi at Easter Road.

We must be due to put one over them, although with our away form it may need a replay.

One note, Killie just beat well at fir park, we dealt with killie and should have won, i know it does not work that

way but just saying anyway.

Jon

Randall Souttar Berra Mitchell

Adao Harry

Milinkovic Naismith MacDonald

Lafferty

I think this is the strongest attacking line up that we can put out. But we will probably be playing not to concede with Cowie, Callaghan and 5 at the back......

Whatever the line up it's the biggest game of the season and im sure levein willl have them fired up, were long overdue a trip to Hampden!

A bit worried about the suspension tightrope but it is what it is. We'll just have to prepare for our semi without Adao, who'll be booked for looking the wrong way at McHugh from about 20 yards away.

Berra and Souttar are well capable of getting through this without yellows, but I'm sure they'll take one if need be.

Lafferty? Well, depends if his nut is screwed on the right way.

I reckon we can take this, 1-0.

We seen the ref be very lenient on John McGinn last week because he knew he'd be suspended for picking up another yellow.

I guarantee the ref will be card happy with our players today. Any excuse to get it right up us IMO.

Paranoid? Probably :)

I would second this team. Nice balance to it and big fan of MacDonald.

Think the lessons from the Killie game are:

Amankwaa deserves a start (I would put him in for Cowie).

Smith is a poor replacement for Mitchell (I would go for Moore).

We need a sub who can replace Lafferty if he has run himself into the ground (thought he had a good 70 mins but did nothing in the last 20 mins).

So is Demi fit or injured? Seen people on here saying both options.

Think it's 1874Robbo who always seems to have info on the starting team before its officially announced.

Said Mitchell is injured.

If any of our players get booked, we could do with the to replay to have them available for the semis.

Obviously I'd rather there were no bookings and we seriously punish well at the first time of asking

The two yellow card rule is a travesty for us. The way refs book Hearts players makes it an uphill struggle every time we get to the latter stages of the cup.

Is that team?  If so I’d be delighted.  Thought Keena was out on Loan and only allowed 5 subs in SC?

cant see Skinny, McDonald, Naismith and Lafferty all starting in a Levein team

Better surface than ours for Danny to show us some pace. I just hope we go for it and dont play for a replay and **** it up.

All Out Attack

This is a cup tie, there can be no defensive setups whatsoever today,

I'm not interested in any excuses here, we have to put out on an all attacking performance.

This is a really tough one to call; definitely winnable for both teams. For me it has 1-1 written all over it though. I'd actually take that right now, get them back to Tynecastle and finish off the job. A semi-final is at stake here so let's actually go out and attack them. We have a superior squad to Motherwell.

If there was a replay, given we have Hibs on Friday, when would it take place ?

A week on Wednesday if either of today's games require a replay.

Agree, a switch to 4-2-3-1 would solve allot of the current teams goal scoring problems.

Unless it's part of Mitchell's loan deal, that he must play at full-back, I'd even play him as a left winger, in addition.

It's a bit heavier now but it's pretty wet.  I'll stick the snow shovel in the boot...

It's obviously a closely balanced game so marginal things can make the difference.    The same application as the previous cup games + no daft mistakes/cards should be enough.     If we're off the pace we'll maybe scrape a replay.

Interestingly I went to an event last week where Rasmus Ankersen spoke about precisely this sort of thing. Because football is such a low scoring game the result of a game is significantly  more subject to being influenced by random events and referee decisions

He gave a really interesting analysis of why the season after Newcastle finished 5th a few seasons back this was followed by them being 19th the next season and why such a fall was statistically predictable and why the Newcastle board were complacent in not improving their squad given these statistics.

We struggle to score goals and you want to drop our top scorer?
