A cracking ball it was too.

I get the feeling the next signing is going to be a Kevin Kyle type.

Battering ram centre forward.

Definitely. We need someone who can hold the ball up to a high standard.

Holding midfielder.

Hope so. As shown of late not needed in every game, but others could prove vital, such as defensive approach away from home or helping to close games out.

As someone else has said, Kamara would be great, but he just signed for them in the summer so would command a fee so can’t see it. Technically I think Randall might be able to play there, maybe Souttar and Buaben, but someone who specialises in such a role can be great for a Scottish side.

Agreed that is very important, we have plenty of work rate in the centre, what we need is quality

I don't have a name as yet but its a player we are looking at rather than a type of player.......if that makes sense?

Yup, but still hope he is technically as good as ball winning.

We are definitely seriously looking at a holding midfielder. Not been told a name.

Quality holding midfielder would let us get the best out of Djoum again :)

They clearly have solid targets in mind that there fairly confident of bringing in. You do though some times find that players become available at a better price come the end of the window.

The thing with Cowie is that the bigger games suit his style more.

There’s more counter attacking and more emphasis on closing down which suits his game.

There’s space for him as the opposition tend to have a go at us.

But don’t ask him to pick locks in games we need players with more craft. He’s technically ordinary. Some of his corners or free kicks are woeful at times too.

He’s a dependable player in certain moments but anyone who thinks we don’t need better in there surprises me.

Absolutely need better. Beyond energy he doesn't give you a great deal.  He doesn't have the physicality or creativity to play centrally, he isn't quick or threatening in the last third when he plays higher up the pitch. Don't see a place for him if we have everyone fit but not a bad player for certain situations.

I got news few days ago about Remi Mulumba. There was some discussion between him and the club. But unfortunetaly he signed for Eupen in Belgium 2 days ago. So, it's not the midfielder we're waiting for.

He changed the game last Sunday. Took the weight off Djoum and Cochrane and let them play whilst putting his foot on the ball

Dr Ian Malcolm

Cowie has a great engine, work rate and most importantly has the experience to know when and when not to do things. Technically, he's fine and has come up goals and assists in the big games. Just because he doesn't split defences doesn't mean he needs to be replaced with someone who can. If it was up to some we'd have midfield full of Scott Allan types.

It's about balance. We probably could do with someone who's more creative, but alongside guys like Cowie who keep the shape and make sure we're  a good side off the ball as well as on it. For years we were so easy to play through and the shape was all over the place. Not any more.

I was VERY dubious about Levien taking over but wow have I been proved wrong, excellent signings, midfielder with a good pedigree to really change my tune. Exciting times ahead.

I agree it's about balance, of course.

But we can and probably will sign better in his place eventually. At 35 I'd expect him to have the experience to know what to do in certain moments.

Being tougher to play through comes from Levein drilling the players on the importance of workrate and shape, engraining more toughness and bravery in the players. We could see that last week v Hibs.  It's taken time but we are seeing the fruits of his work,

Also I'd say because of the leadership developed by Berra at the back and how it's seeped throughout the team. We had none of that pre Levein.

Honestly, I'd rather names weren't posted. You don't know who's reading, especially with yourself, Notts and a few others posting quality and accurate information. We don't want someone nicking our targets, if that makes sense.

Not at all pal, I don't do VIP or special PM's to anyone no different for her. The sooner I can actually have a conversation without her asking who my source is the sooner we can all get on with our lives.
