I saw one up a mountain in Scotland I know what it was and understood the science behind this phenomenon. But in my defence I only knew about it the week before while talking to another bagger who said he would love to see it. The weather conditions have to be bang on. You can Google what I am talking about but at the top of a mountain when you see out of the mist a giant appear to a Victorian its easier to believe there is a monster. But the reality is its just you with the sun protecting your own image onto the cloud acting as a giant screen inside a perfect circle of a rainbow. I am talking about a broken spector. I did get a picture but was too freaked out with excitement as rainbow strands coming out of your fingers it was like being on acid. And a 20foot image of a man in the sky could fool someone delirious from the altitude. Anyhow being so lucky to experience this, I believe beyond doubt that's what most reporting are.
