Fully agree. If Independence is going to happen then the SNP must tone down the anti English stuff it’s base spews out. They must also distance themselves from some sort of socialist dream for Scotland.

Anti English?

What pish.

Where is there any anti Englishness from anyone on here?

I am sure Nigel Farage and others will be there shortly to announce plans on how they intend to remedy situation. No one to blame but themselves and find it very hard to find any sympathy for them.

Well to be fair, the fishing communities - and the rest of us - were told it would be the easiest trade deal in history, so no need to worry.  🙄

Show me. Point me to anyone's post that has anti English bias or English xenophobia.

Bet you wont...or cant.

Anti Westminster yes, but if that's you're gripe then you're saying that Westminster is an ENGLISH Parliament and not a BRITISH one which will be very interesting.

Hearing that a deal should be announced on Friday or Saturday.

The final sticking point is fishing but there might be a fudge to get the overall deal over the line.

No reason to doubt the source but anything could happen still.

Found any yet? That's 3 and a half days of waiting.

Can I assume you are just getting confused and mixed up with a dislike of Westminster and a dislike of English folks?

I will buy that.

Give over. Aussie’s posts are dripping with anti-English sentiment. Just because he throws in words like Westminster and Tories from time to time doesn’t change what he is.

A xenophobe, nothing less.

Thats very interesting and very surprising.

Whilst Johnson may come back with some kind of 'deal' he's going to have a hell of a job getting it past an already twitchy Tory party which is chock full of rabid no deal types who will annihilate him from within if he doesn't deliver empire 2.0

And he repeatedly silenced Black voices calling out injustice against their communities with "All Lives Matter", while spouting the things you've touched on here. Shan as can be.

I'm so glad he and his ilk represent the tiniest minority, and that Indy in general is quite the opposite of this. Nutters aside, the sharp contrast between Indy (the many happy “English for Yes” supporters I met out at marches, for example) and the overwhelming language and attitude around Brexit (xenophobia, as you alluded to) are plain as day.

My wife and kids are English and so are a lot of my friends so I find it fairly ****ing offensive tbh.

That’s not to suggest most pro-Indy posters on here are the same.

He will have no difficulty getting a deal through and the majority of Tory MPs will support it.

And there will be nothing surprising about a last minute deal. It is the norm for the EU.

That's fair enough, take it up with him if you have a problem. But the point was originally raised by someone saying "the SNP must tone down the anti English stuff it’s base spews out"

There are dicks attached to every single cause but it's massively unfair to suggest that the SNP base is anti english. Being pro-Scottish and being anti-English are different things, being anti-Westminster and being anti-English are different things, and wanting our country to be free of the union is in no way inherently anti English.

It’s not hard of thinking to know that most pro-Indy people are decent.

It’s incredibly hard of thinking not to be able to understand the attitude behind Aussie’s posts. But there we are.

Not many deals would be made on the basis of one side demanding the other unilaterally  list its "compromises" within 48 hours.

Anyway I think there will be deal but with the EU it was always going to be the eleventh hour or even the traditional stopping of the clock at midnight.

How dare those nasty foreigners use the exact same tactics that Johnson used last month.

Get ready for no deal, Boris Johnson warns: PM tells Brussels it must 'come to us' and compromise if there is to be a free trade agreement on his Brexit 'deadline day

But but we have been told for years that the whole Johnson hard Brexit strategy was a no deal exit.

Unsurprisingly the possibility of a deal sees a change of horses!

Johnson hasn't been in charge for years, but it clearly was.

The fact that a global pandemic has come along and weakened our position and ability to deal with the fallout has also undoubtedly had influence and changed the situation.

But, I mean, duh.

Gosh... this is getting quite confusing for simpletons like me.   😪      So if indyef2 results in yes, and we join the EU having left the UK, who will we be pro and who will we be  anti ?    It's probably important to know, just so that no-one  ends up on riAlban's bus by accident.  🙄

You misunderstood. I wasn't suggesting he wanted the EU to keep its compromises secret. I have no great  ... sorry make that no respect for Johnson's intellect but I think he knows that for one side in a negotiation to reveal its compromises (ie its concessions)  in advance of the other would be stupid and not a route to a deal.

I could be wrong, but devolution basically meant that Westminster acted as both. The English regions couldn't agree how to devolve  "England only" stuff, so it stayed at Westminster.

The Commission signed an advance supply agreement for the AstraZeneca Oxford vaccine in August.  The deal is for a minimum of 300 million doses, but the delivery could run to 400 million.  That's twice as many doses as the EU has ordered from Moderna.  The EU has also signed deals with CureVac, Johnson & Johnson, Sanofi-GSK and Pfizer-BioNTech (and there may be others I've missed) for up to two billion doses.  The view is that all of these will be needed to ensure a sufficient supply.

As you correctly point out, at least they're not bitter.

There are actually quote a lot of tensions between Westminster and English regions. The latter have a lot less power than Scotland.

No one's said the EU's always right.
