The EU has sanctioned over 400 Russian individuals and entities following the Ukraine invasion.

The UK has sanctioned 16.

Interesting to see how Putin's investment in the Tories is paying off for him.

400, what's that? 15 each.

You havevto bear in mind thst the 'more than 100 individuals and organisations' which turns out is 16 have all been served with 30 day notice of sanctions.

30 days.

When you can move money and transfer ownership in a second on line.

30 days.

African despot levels of chicanery.

Disgusting stuff.

Hi Aussie.

400 in each and every one of the 27 countries.  As opposed to 16 in your United Kingdom.

Boris being the stand up guy (compromised Russian stooge) is also giving them a whopping 180 days to sell their mansions too 👍

Brexit red tape hits refugee relief effort, while Liz Truss urged to re-start row with Brussels

Red tape delays at Dover have hampered relief efforts. PA Wire/PA Images

Don’t they know there’s a war on? The Brexit bureaucracy never stops, not even for a huge international crisis. The red tape is preventing grassroots charities from getting aid out to the Ukrainian border to help refugees. Some charities said vans have been stuck at Dover for several days trying to sort out the border issues. Some have even had shut down donations and direct people to the Disaster Emergency Committee or other big players – admitting they aren’t equipped to deal with customs paperwork. Brexit’s political hostilities haven’t ceased, despite the real war. Brexiteer Steve Baker attacked the government’s shelving of the protocol controversy because of the Russian invasion. “Liz Truss must act now,” he said in a speech to East Belfast Conservatives. But the foreign secretary has told the DUP and Tory backbenchers she will not be rushed.

Where's that from? The Nazi or the Express?

Regardless they've still not realised that the red tape is all self inflicted.

Taking back control.

If only there were stronger employment laws to prevent this sort of unscrupulous behaviour by employers.

Indeed. Looks like at least some of these “redundancies” will result in a “Fire and Rehire” situation. And given the comments of some observers, a significant number of the replacement employees will be non-British. At least that will go some way to redressing the Brexit balance and see some foreign workers joining these shores legitimately, contributing to our Exchequer and enriching our societies. Like many before them.

Boris goes to the Middle East begging for help with oil.  24 hours later Middle Eastern owned company sacks 800 folk to move in cheaper labour.  Coincidence?

Am I doing this right😄👍

Well there are some laws.

P&O chose to ignore them

And only last year the Government blocked a bill that would have banned Fire & Rehire.

I know. As a union Rep, I was engaged in challenging F&R for members who faced losing their Final Salary pensions. It was a protracted battle which resulted in a “compromise” whereby the employer offered a 150% improvement to the replacement DC scheme on offer.

Barry Gardiner got involved with a Private Members Bill and I ended up on a Zoom call with Rebecca Long-Bailey. The hypocrisy from various Tory MP’s who condemned the F&R of companies at the time such as British Gas was nauseating.

As ever, those of a certain political persuasion are absolutely fine with F&R - until that is, it visits them. A country of sheep.

Rabid Brexiteer now taking the U.K. government to the Supreme Court because quote, “it is worse than remaining in the EU”.

Can't the government just revoke P&O's license and award it to someone else instead?

(they would probably **** that up by giving a contract to a ferry company that doesn't have any ferries).

The employees are employed in Jersey, UK laws aren't relevant

Should be brought under CalMac IMO. They'd have to rent or buy the boats from P&O who would probably try to extort them but eventually there'd be no more of the profiteering nonsense.

Ah the benefits.....

Lord Barwell, May's private secretary, tells it like it is.

Barwell doesn't seem to understand that even after six years , there is no usable customs systems to cope with the additional red tape.

UK has been delaying full implementation and will be asking for a fourth delay. This means there is no control as UK simply waives thru EU lorries as it cannot carry out the required checks while UK trucks are routinely held up for more than 48 hour at ports.  It's not sustainable.

In the meantime the Holyhead  - Dublin route has all but been abandoned by Irish / EU truckers as they cut out the UK land bridge to Europe.

The Irish have invested in numerous new and direct ferry routes to protect themselves.

I think Barwell understands it perfectly well.

Its red tape generated by the UK's decision to leave the EU. They're not asking for a delay, they're just not implementing their own rules.

To clarify. It's UK red tape, not EU red tape.

That there's no system in place after 6 years is a comment in itself. What did they think would happen?

It is self inflicted economic sanctions brought to you by a bunch of shysters who didn't think it through in the first place.

TBF, Leavers kept trumpeting the phrase, “We’ve had enough of exports”, so this news shouldn’t come as a surprise. (At least, I think that is what they kept saying). :cornette_dog:

I'm not sure what I'd do (either laugh, cry or man the barricades probably), but wouldn't it be nice if BoJo, Farage, the haunted pencil and the ching king just held a press conference where they put their hands up and said, "We persuaded the turkeys of the UK to vote for perpetual Christmases,  and we did it all for personal gain. Thanks for being such good sports about it"

Boris Johnson better get swotting. The prime minister and his chums will be back to school after Easter recess soon – and the PM’s old study buddy is marking his homework. Former negotiator Lord Frost thinks No 10 only deserves a “B+” when it comes to delivering on the “benefits” of Brexit. Lord Frost is also urging his former charge to trigger one of their famous rows with the EU major, insisting the protocol “cannot survive”. The hardliner says it must be “renegotiated or the government must act unilaterally”. Meanwhile, back in the real world, Brexit downsides are becoming ever more clear. Around 10 days of IT problems with Brexit customs codes added to the traffic chaos around Dover, where lorries have waited in queues of up to 25 miles. Logistics chiefs say recurring gridlock is damaging the reputation of the UK. I think we can mark that down as F for fail.

Mugs indeed. Some inject this thread with their ‘sunlit uplands’ guff and week by week, the Brexit s**tshow reaches new pinnacles of absolute failure. It is now abundantly clear that even more Leavers were hiding behind that same ‘sunlit uplands’ mantra, knowing full well that it was a lie. But it was a convenient lie, as it allowed many to mask their true motivation behind wanting Brexit.

What a country this is.

But anything that goes badly will be blamed on "Bloody EU red tape" and "that shite deal they imposed on us"

They'll never, EVER accept that Brexit is a pish idea that's going to seriously hamper the UK.
